Really good video. I've done similar with the Lanshan 2 Pro, and also put shockcord on my Yunchun 2 but never thought of using the shockcord to redesign it. It would definitely speed things up as I always get a little confused where I should put the inner!

Thanks! It took us a while to understand how it's supposed to be pitched. Once we figured that out, and realizing that the tent design is a rectangle within a rectangle, the inner needs to be placed at the same spot each time, so we thought we could use shock cord to help. We also like the feature that we still retained the original design if the ground doesn't like the 4 stake pitch. Let us know how you make out!

As a side note, we used the Lanshan 2 Pro a few weeks ago and while I adore the tent, I believe it's been replaced be Asta Gear Yun Chuan 2. We'll do a video on it soon.

So around 6:10 the staking is wrong. You're meant to use the guy outs that are a little way down the side form the corner so that the inner is at a strange position relative to the outer rectangle shape between the 4 outer stakes. This means two extra stakes are needed for those two guy out points. It does work really well in creating a taut inner and ensures separation from the outer. That said - I'm curious about your modification and will try it as it's a nice idea to reduce the number of required pegs anyway!

Hello, have you tried modifying the internal mesh? I find it unnecessarily loose and sinking into the sleeping area.

I can't believe you actually made a video of yourselves supporting a pirate company who copied this exact tent from Durston Gear. The original ones doesnt even cost too much for the effort it took them to design, and implement changes to improve the tent. Support the original makers!

I'm sorry you feel that way. We are simply evaluating a tent that we paid for with our own money. Since, it is our own money, we do feel that we can spend it where we want.

@@WrightsOutside Not everyone can afford to buy the xmid, especially if you don't live in the US. The cost is around $600 after shipping where I live. That's premium tent money right there. Thanks for sharing this, I'm going to try this mod on my tent too!

@@paulchec3243 Thank you! We were going to include similar comments in our post above. We live in Canada and paid about 40% of the cost of an X-Mid 2. I think we can all agree that hikers should have an option of good affordable gear. Let us know how the modification works for you!
