Looks like either NZ or England with France and Canada as outsiders with a genuine chance.

I think England looked a mess against France and NZ. They might be playing to Mitchell's 'exciting' new plan, but they are making too many mistakes, they seemed to be confused without a clear game strategy and the kicking game has taken a step backwards. They were playing more cohesive and effective rugby under Deacon. Currently, they are very wasteful of opportunities.

Agreed. He inherited a Rolls Royce, so not sure how much credit he deserves. When England are under pressure they do seem to revert to rolling mauls, so maybe the "new style" is thinly papered over top of the old one. I'm pretty sure if they lose a game during WXV the honeymoon period will be over and the other side of Mitchell's personality will creep out. Still, they're the team to beat but I think NZ will be better when they meet England in WXV. They left out some of their starting players when they played the last game to give the newbies a run, and they were a little rusty not having played for a few months. The English hype machine is at full speed again (fans & media) as it was before last world cup. The thing that's different this time is that the other teams are stronger. Canada have gone up a notch, Ireland and Scotland are improving and will be much better by next year. South Africa are looking really good currently and NZ are in a stronger position than they were before the last world cup, when they had only just turned professional.

@@DarkMoonWayfarer England left out some very good players in those matches, either through injuries or by choice. Meg Jones, Rosie Gallaghan, Emma Sing, plus a lot of youngsters in the Premier 15s that haven't yet registered on the international scene, but are pushing for places in the squad. Zoe Harrison is returning to full fitness and quite clearly made a significant difference when she came on at the end of the recent match against the Black Ferns. The professional women's game in England continues to grow at a pace and will provide a conveyor belt of talent that any other country will struggle to match for a while. I don't think there is anything wrong with scoring through rolling mauls, it has always been part of the game and other teams don't do it, not because it is less 'pretty' than a winger running, but because they lack the skill. I doubt any team will beat England in the WXV, primarily because the squad is so strong. I expect England to win the World Cup with home advantage, despite the current lacklustre playing strategy.

All the hype is doing both the player and England harm. There were several opportunities where passing was a better option against the Black Ferns, rather than running it herself.
