There is a chargin voltage to note too, which depends on protocol and handshake, where specific cable brands contain a handshaking chip, which does or does not allow fast/superfast charging, depending on the attached phone brand.

Good information here. I spent a bit of time to do some research and what you have said confirms it. I purchased a replacement 3 pin double socket with 2 x USB A & 1 x USB C sockets built in with 3.6 amps maximum output. I still have my 2017 LG G6 phone which can be charged to a maximum 18 watts with a QC3 standard cable. I use the USB C socket and cable to charge my phone and from empty to 50% takes about half an hour and another hour and 20 minutes from 50% to 100%. I am still on the original battery and I put it on charge every night with the occasional full discharge & recharge.

the phone works best when its at 50%, so when it reaches 100% it completes a cycle. They say you should disconnect it and let it cycle down vs having it constantly plugged in so it doesn't keep "topping up". Modern phones these days are pretty good at managing that vs older phones that weren't. Personally I disconnect at 100%.

Definitive answer is your battery doesnt like extremes, dont discharge past 15-20%, also dont charge past 85-90%. How long can you prolong battery life this way, 6 months, a year, i dont know, but it will degrade slower then if you dont care. So yes, disconect it when full, it will spend less time in more stressfull state. Edit: theres an app, accubattery that explains quite well how charging affects battery as closer to 100% you go, battery cycles and stuff

I've read that one should not charge a phone with a wall adapter that does not supply enough wattage. A another reason to know this information is if one has older charging bank and want to make sure the charging bank can charge the phone this information might be needed. For example if a phone requires 15 watt charging and the power bank only supplies 10 watt I am wondering if that would cause damage or just charge the phone really slow. Thanks.

The best and most simple explanations I’ve watched on You Tube were from two electricians and they both said exactly the same things. 1. Use your original cable that came with your device. 2. Make sure the charger has the same Voltage as the Voltage input of your device. 3. Make sure the Amp output of the charger is equal to or higher than the Amp input of your device. The device will only draw what it needs so won’t be damaged if the Amps from the charger are higher. If it is lower, in extreme cases it can damage your device. Using a charger with a different Voltage can also damage your device.

My Samsung phone warns me if I am using a slower type 2.0 cable and only supports slow charging, but if I change it out to a better cable will tell me it's fast charging. One advantage of the higher wattage multiple port chargers is that it can charge multiple devices at once (just be sure not to overload) or supports larger devices like tablets or even chromebooks or macbooks. I also recently got a nice beefy 120 W Araimo charger (about the size of a square pocket tape measure) which came nicely packaged with 3 USBC and 1 USB-A port. Lately I've been going nuts with these chargers and cables (you can never have too many!) but so far no issues. Some safety notes - don't overload, don't use attended and don't use the plugged in phone in the bath or shower. Although the UL/CE safety tested and double insulated models are safe 99.999% of the time, you don't want to risk your life in case of a breach which can happen if the unit gets wet r or in case of defect. Usually there is good isolation between the HV and LV sides of the charger, but some cheap models cut it really close.

As long as you keep the charger block away from water the USB (low voltage wires) cannot hurt you unless you stick them in your mouth. You can take your phone plugged in and charging with a USB type a, b, or c into the tub with you and submerge it in the water. As long as the block that plugs into the 120vac is away from the water you only destroyed your phone. Again, 5vdc cannot hurt you unless you stick it in you mouth.

This was a helpful video. My only comment is that modern chargers support a wide array of voltages and currents to provide higher power, but this negotiation is done directly between the power brick and the device. Putting the meter in the middle limits the power to 10 watts (5V/2A). USB-C PD is capable of up to 100 watts (20V/5A), and even more on some newer versions. USB-A with QC 3.0 is capable of up to 36 watts (12V/3A). The negotiation occurs upon cable connection, and the device will only draw the power it is capable of safely absorbing, at a current the cable is capable of safely delivering.
@hadibinsumaida8025
Жыл бұрын
Exactly ! Am stunned that he is making all these blant statements when the usb power meter is in the middle. Your only getting 1.9amps because thats the maximum your meter probably can deliver. If you want to get a more accurate amp readings do it through the fone kernel by using an app that can read real time amp input like "cpufloat" or an app that can log volts and and amps when the screen is off for the most accurate reading like "3C battery manager" or etc . As some fones will charge at a lower amp when the screen is on to avoid higher charging temp. Which is the main variable that decides wether your fone will charge to full in fast or slow effect. is based on the fone battery "TEMPERATURE" To OP: you need to redo all your testing with the fone connected directly to the wall adapter with "NO USB METER" in between. And you should account for ambient temp and fone battery temp. Also make sure the fone is already fully booted and running all processes. Not like that dead fone which only started to boot after you connected the charger ( btw every fone will charge at 1.8 ~ 1.9 amp as its like the basic failsafe maximum 5v charginf rate. However after the fone boots up only then it will start nagotiating with the charger. ( of course there could be small differences from a manufacturer to other but thats mostly how it is. Last thing, its not true that your fone charge fast at 1.9 till 50% then switch to trickle. While the highest amps will be fed the lower and the cooler the battery is However, its not constant current. The amps will gradually get lower till its fully charged. In other words most fones should fast charge till around 80%, then it will switch to trickle or the equivlent of 1 amp ( which also gradually decreses till 0 amp = fully charged. Hope that helps !

Do fast chargers affect the lifespan of the battery?
@LironSegev
Жыл бұрын
Everything has a lifespan but with fast charging and then trickle charging stages that prolongs the life of the battery.

Wait.. a 20V charger to charge a phone? Has that been tested?
@fxpeter22
Жыл бұрын
To the best of my knowledge USB C is designed for up to 20v. The phones internal charging circuit will reduce the voltage to a safe level to charge a smaller voltage battery

absolutely correct! That is why its best to buy from reputable websites and not just get the cheapest one sold on the side of the road.

Don't use DC power to charge them to over 50%.. phone batteries do NOT like DC power from 12v batteries in a car.

Citation? The ac wall chargers convert to dc. How is the car doing something different? This is of interest to me as I am RVing and in the process of hooking everything I can to solar and batteries. I recently found a dc laptop charger for my LG gram, don’t want to f it up.

Can you elaborate on that? How does thw source of power affects phones?

Is the phone being connected directly to the car battery? That would be bad. But the output of a USB car charger is no different to the output of a switched mode power supply i.e. the tech used to convert AC mains power to DC.

@JunglistMassiveDuB you are so right. I will let USB governing industry body that they have it wrong and you have it right. Thank you for clarifying what a world wide body that sets the standard has gotten wrong. 🤦
