Alot of electronic drummers like to use amps. In fact it's the first and only thing they think of. And as you start doing your research look at various edrum amps looking at Roland/Simmons/DDrum/Yamaha some guys have asked about alternatives to straight up edrum amps. Guys ask me if they can use their Fender amp for their TD11k or whatever, and I say yes you CAN. But you shouldn’t. Guitars play in a different frequency range than a drumset. A drumset covers EVERYTHING. The cymbals cut through some very high frequencies,
(up to 17k HZ). While the Kick drum is basically the reason Sub-woofers exist. (100 Hz). So There is a wide range of sound your amp needs to cover. The Best case scenario is to use a PA system with a Sub-woofer, but not everyone has the money, or the space for that. Guitar amps just won’t cut it. Edrum amps generally have a range of tweeters, a sub, and some mids to cover everything your drums throw at it. But there is another option alot of drummers don’t know about, KEYBOARD AMPS! Keyboards cover most of the frequencies that drums do, so the goals of keyboard amps and drum amps align beautifully. If you have one lying around, don’t be afraid to plug it in, and jam out. Sometimes a Keyboard amp will be more cost effective than a drum amp, and have more ports on it to connect multiple instruments to boot. It’s definitely something to think about. One popular amp is the Roland KC 150. Believe it or not, Roland actually uses the same internals for some of their edrum amps, and keyboard amps. They are priced lower differently because Roland has already established an expectation in drummers that everything is expensive, but keyboardists aren’t buying that. So I’m not saying you need to drop everything and go buy one. I’m just saying it’s a viable option, especially if you already have one around and didn’t know if it would be a good fit with your electronic drumset.
