Just starting Denison Ave. I am sure that Nenshi will do a fabulous job defending it. I also look forward to reading Bad Cree.

I don't think I would have expected most of these books to be shortlisted. I loved the mini vlog. You should do more of them. 💚to your mom!

Bad Cree wasn't a surprise but the rest were kind of surprising. The mini vlog was ok, but they take more time so we will see. Will definitely send your 💚 to Mom. Thanks AJ. 😊💙

Silvia Morena-Garcia's "Mexican Gothic" was horror (last year's CR). Thank you sharing your vlog - seeing your Mom with the pups made me smile :). I've read 4 of the 5 books (currently reading "Meet At The Lake" that I intentionally left to last because I'm not a fan of romance) and I think you are correct about the final two books and the winner.

Thanks. Yes! Mexican Gothic that’s right! Thank you for reminding me. We will see if the two books I think will make it to the end actually do. 😊💙

I love following Canada Reads through your channel. Bad Cree is the one I’ll be rooting for. It was a 5 ⭐️ book for me. Meet me at the Lake was unfortunately a DNF for me.

Thanks Sarah. Bad Creek has a good chance. I think Meet Me At The Lake has a smaller fan base and it is an easy target. 😊💙

I just finished Bad Cree and I really liked it, I found that the pacing was very good and the story drew me in as you mentioned. I don't think I will be reading Meet Me at the Lake but I appreciate everything you mention about it. I am really excited to see Naheed defend Denison Ave. just because I like him - I can't say much because he's not been the mayor of my city but he seems great from afar. I would love to meet Jessica Johns! I'm excited for the debates. I'll be rooting for Bad Cree. I hope your mom finds a placement in long term care soon, I have been on a similar journey with my mom so I know what it's like. ❤

I have read four the shortlisted Canada Reads 2024 books so far and I am currently reading The Future. My favourite is Denison Avenue and is my pick for the win! Your dogs are so cute, they look so excited to see your mom! So sweet and made me smile 🙂. And it looks like they really brought joy to your mom as well

Yay! Short list video! It sounds like Mr. Nenshi almost picked the longlisted book _Reuniting with Strangers,_ which I just read and was fantastic, but I'm glad he picked such a little-known book and gave it the boost (no wonder the library took so much longer to get copies in than the other four books). I do think that _Denison Avenue_ should win (though I'm sorry the audiobook was so irritating), and I'm glad it's got such a great defender. I really like that it's a two fronted book, and tells the story upside down to itself. It feels like that medium really adds to the story. I guess it's a case of weird marketing, but I really felt like whoever did the promos for _The Future_ was leaning a little too hard on the "alternate history" aspect, which seemed like it let a lot of people down. The author said that she made it an alternate history so she could write it in French, which of course didn't survive being translated into English. I personally loved it, and found it my fave of the short listed books, but I think people went in with different expectations. It and _Denison Avenue_ were five star reads for me. I generally like romance, and think it has every right to be in the competition, and even that the book fits the theme as well as any of them, but _Meet Me at the Lake_ wasn't my thing personally. I think the sense of place worked against it in my case. As a west coaster, it feels like I get _a lot_ about how cottage country is the best ever from the Ontario crowd, and I'm somewhat over it. I agree with your voting order, though I wonder if _The Future_ would last to second, biased because it's my fave. Loved the little travel vlog and getting to see the pups and your mom 💖 The hot chocolate festival looks amazing! Glad there's more crossover events forthcoming. I really enjoyed that last year.

I've read 3 of the 5. Struggling with The Future and have decided to wait for the debates to see if it'll help me clarify what the heck I'm reading LOL. just started Denison Avenue. I thoroughly enjoyed Meet Me At The Lake and I'm sorry it's getting so much flack. I think your predictions for the top two are pretty accurate.

I caught the first day for Canada Reads. Unfortunately I missed the first part where Bad Cree was defended. I was thinking that was going to be your prediction as the winner. My favorite book tubers really liked Bad Cree. Not so much Meet Me at the Lake. I love the debates.

I have so many mixed feelings about this years books (the three I've read, Bad Cree, Shut Up You're Pretty & The Future) I liked parts of all of them but some scenes just took me right out of the book. You might like to check out "Madame Victoria" by Catherine Leroux, She wrote about a women's remains found out side of a hospital but there are no records any where of who she was so the author made up short stories imagining what her lives could have possibly been. I may have to splurge and get Denison Ave. this week....
