If you make up the juice in an empty 1.5 litre bottle 20-25mm juice then fill with water put in fridge you can lay it down also you can freeze it and let it defrost throughout the day just make sure yo leave 50mm from the top if freezing for expansion. always cold then asda own make juice double strength is nice

The logo on Lyle's Treacle depicts a biblical reference: a lion carcass surrounded by bees refers to a story where Samson killed a lion and returned to it a few days later to find bees had made a hive in the body. The bitters label was a mistake. The inventors sons took over the business and were trying to improve marketing so entered the drink in a competition at the last moment. Due to the rush they made a mistake on the measurements for the label hence it's oversized and when they didn't win, it's rumoured that it was suggested to them to keep the mistake as a gimmick to make it memorable. They tried it and it's worked for almost 200 years.

The seal is called a Royal Warrant. It also applies to other businesses that have royal patronage. For example Waitrose have a warrant from both the Queen and the Prince of Wales as a supplier of groceries, and Land Rover as a supplier of cars. Add a few drops of bitters to a gin to give you a pink gin, a very traditional drink: Noel Coward consumes it by the gallon in In Which We Serve.

You have been with us for a moment in British history that is not likely to be repeated in our lifetimes. I have been alive to see Queen Elizabeth II reach her 40th anniversary in 1992 (technically Ruby but there was no Jubilee as such) and her Golden and Diamond Jubilees (50th and 60th) in 2002 and 2012, so it's quite something to be seeing a Platinum Jubilee. The Queen has two more years to go before breaking the all-time European record of 72 years, currently held by King Louis XIV of France; whether she will make it to an 80th anniversary is uncertain, as she is clearly slowing down and beginning to depute her children and grandchildren to carry out various public engagements and international visits. She would have to live to 106 to mark another decade on the throne, and she would break yet more records for British royalty, unlikely to be surpassed for centuries.... In any case, when her time comes to depart this life, Prince Charles will have spent longer as Heir Apparent than any other before him, and will be the oldest in history to accede the throne; the most he could hope to celebrate would be a Silver Jubilee after 25 years. We shall have to see what happens, ultimately! The selection of June for the anniversary celebration is indeed intended to steer clear of the anniversary of the previous King's death, although the Accession Date was marked (and is marked every year) by religious ceremonies. Conveniently, 2nd June is the anniversary of QE II's coronation, although that took place in 1953 and that has led to some media making a blooper by referring to "70 years since the coronation" which won't be true until 2023. Although it is argued that a June celebration would be likelier to benefit from clement weather, we have witnessed some rainy June days both this year and in previous years. In fact, the actual Coronation Day (2nd June 1953) was horrendously rainy; one of the most memorable images in the film footage was of the Queen of Tonga sitting in an open carriage, using a hanky to wipe the rain from her face whilst she waved cheerily to the crowds! As for the royal warrant, it tends to be awarded to the manufacturers and suppliers rather than to the products. If a brand displays the royal seal, it means that they supply goods and services to whichever royal household is named, and the warrant allows them to advertise that fact. It doesn't necessarily mean that the Queen uses or consumes every product they make. Incidentally, the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) can also grant royal warrants, as could Prince Philip as Duke of Edinburgh. (Upon his death in 2021, Prince Charles became Duke of Edinburgh, so that warrant is no longer issued as the title of Prince of Wales takes precedence.) I'm old enough to remember products with another royal seal on them: that of Queen Elizabeth,wife of King George VI and mother of the present Queen, hence she was known as the Queen Mother. (She died in 2002 at the age of 101.) So many of them didn't pass the CanadaBrit Taste Test on this occasion, on account of being ingredients to be mixed with others. On that note: try splashing the Angostura bitters into Brussel sprouts when cooking them. That, dear Alanna, is a revelation on the level of Cadbury's Dairy Milk, in my opinion!
@geoffpoole483
2 жыл бұрын
That was hilarious. Belgian chocolate is extremely good but isnot intended for consuming in great quantity, which one can with Dairy Milk. Colman's mustard...... I live in Norwich and not far from the city centre is a village called Trowse, where Colman's workers lived. It's worth a brief detour if you're in Norwich. Between Trowse andthe city centre you'll find a homebrew pub. The "kick" in English mustard probably comes from horseradish, which has a similar flavour to wasabi.

i have only used treacle in an Xmas cake once . we tend to use Golden syrup by Tate and Lyles for Pancakes ,cooking and Porridge etc. In the 2nd world war the sugar factory in London was bombed in the Blitz ,folks that remembered it said sugar syrup was running down the street

I am not a Royalist by any stretch of the imagination but Elizabeth II has conducted herself with dignity throughout her reign and deserves our respect, Her son is a waste of space but thankfully her Grandson is showing promise (William not that twat harry)

Oh dear Alanna, your poor stomach! Not to mention your taste buds. Very few of those items will be palatable on their own, that's unpleasant enough, but one after the other like that? Ugh you're braver than I am! 😂

You could have saved yourself a world of pain by just tipping the angostura bitters into your Gordon's and savouring a proper pink gin (not that nasty strawberry stuff!)

Alanna, How do Canadians feel about the Queen, and still being part of the Commonwealth, in general? That would make an interesting video.

"Just a tiny, tiny amount" Said Alanna....... then put a really big blob of mustard on her tongue.... 😳 It's An-go-stu-ra bitters (just in case you ever try it on screen again! 😉) Fab food haul! Even if you lost your stomach lining for us! Also, (sorry for going on a bit) try Charbonel and Walker for hot chocolate, it has the royal seal too and is delicious!

I really enjoy the taste tests you do. Much respect to your stomach for enduring such hardships albeit with a little grumbling. Love the Queen. Think she is absolutely amazing 😊

Remarkable to think the Queen's been on the throne for 70 years. That's a heck of a long time to spend on the toilet. Here's hoping your taste test didn't cause a similar excursion.

I think some northerners are dismayed at how southern you are getting. But you are still saying master as mAsta and not marstuh. The Royal Warrant crest on a product does not mean that the Queen personally consumes it. It means the household patronizes SOME of the products of that company. Which is a shame because it is a great idea for a video.
