//// Instructions:
Canadian Fingerless Gloves
These gloves are made with the Canadian Stitch.
• Knitted Canadian Ribbi...
I used #1(Fingering Weight) yarn
#4US (3 1/2mm) knitting needles.
k=knit
p=purl
p2tog=purl 2 stitches together
m1=make one.- pick up the strand between 2 stitches and knit it.
m1tw=make one twisted
Repeat from * to
Cast on 52 stitches (multiple of 3 + 1) for this project.
Set up rows:
1.- p1, *k1, p2
2.- k2, p1 end with k1
Make these 2 rows, 3 times, for a total of 6 rows.
Stitch rows:
Row 1.- p1, k1, m1, p2
Row 2.- k2, p2tog end with k1
Repeat these 2 rows, 16 times.
Place a marker on the middle stitch, (the knit one). and start working on :
On the wrong side of the 17th repetition, you
work 25, place marker, m1tw, k, p2tog, p1, m1tw place marker and work the
remaining stitches=24. You now have 5 stitches for the thumb.
The right side of the row is worked as usual except for the thumb, in which you
purl the stitches between the markers, except for the middle knit one. After you add the stitches for the thumb, you end up having on the right side:
9 purls, 1knit (center stitch) and 9 purls=19
On right side (Row1) Work in pattern on 24 stitches, place thumb stitches in
stitch holder and work the remaining 25 stitches.
On the wrong side (Row2) you will need to replace the 3 stitches
you “borrowed” for the thumb. So when you get to the middle, (after
working 24 stitches) you: knit front and back of the next stitch, m1tw,
and knit front and back on the next stitch. Continue with the pattern
You now have the initial 52 stitches.
Work in pattern, rows 1 and 2, 5 more times.
Start ribbing: Row 1.- p1, k1, p2
Row 2.- k2, p1 end with k1
Repeat these 2 rows, once more.
Bind off in pattern, on right side.
Pick up the stitches from the holder and knit:
1.- P3, k1,p2 end with k1, p3.
2.- k3, p1, k2 end with p1, k3.
Repeat these 2 rows, once more.
Bind off in pattern, on right side of work.
Sew side of gloves and sew inside of thumb.
Weave in ends.
