Compare the LSU Elite 8 press conference to the UConn Final 4 press conference and Iowa's last press conference. Which teams and players showed more maturity and deserved more respect? The actual question the reporter asked was simply "What is it like to play with Angel Reese?" The reporter I assume had some insider info about the Vogue article and Reese's WNBA plans. The LSU response was literally insane

She shouldn’t have put out the “sexy” photographs that a swimsuit model would and not expect to get sexist remarks. That was poor judgment. She can do it, but don’t get mad when ppl turn you into a sex symbol afterwards. That’s BS. The attacks on her for “taunting” when she beat Iowa were also BS. These are competitive players. CC had no problem with it, why would anyone else?

People who hate the players don’t really love the game. You can disagree with how they handled a possession or maybe you don’t like their style of play but no one gets to the pros or this level of collegiate play without being an absolute expert artist. I have loved women's bball for years, been to many games when there were only a few hundred in attendance. I won't say hate, but dislike for CC is definitely there for me. It stems from her preferential treatment by the refs, and her often poor sportsmanship on the court. I love football as well, and the same can be said of Brady, Manning, Rogers, etc. Same can be said of the NBA. Same in the men's college game- watch what Zack Edey gets away with. Preferential treatment of stars happens. Its actually MORE irritating to long time fans of the game than newcomers. Candace Parker and the GREAT Coach Pat Summitt (GO LADY VOLS!) are still the icons of the game in my opinion. Yes, the Clarks and Bueckers of the world will make their mark. It would just be nice if they weren't jerks while doing it. But that's how sports stardom works- ego is a helluva drug, and you can't be the best without it. Double edged sword.

people also hate players because of the way they carry themselves as human beings. I love the game having a daughter who played D1 I have been watching the game since UConn Tennessee days. So to say the hate comes from dont love the game is pure BS. Look Angel Reese is a great rebounder great at putting the ball back. She is a decent passer. She also cant hit the broad side of a barn as soon as she steps away from the basket. I think she is gonna have a hard time against the bigs in the WNBA at least at first. Love her game but the way she comes off in pressers shows a lot of immaturity. Her last one before the Final eight she actually said everybody wants to be LSU. I mean how delusional is she. She never ever in any presser gives the other team an ounce of credit. it is always about her and how she grew up in Baltimore. Making it seem like she was some kind of street kid. Got news for ya her parents are upper middle class people and she went to a private school where tuition is over 12,000 a year. She was embarrassing after the SC game. waa, waa, waa,. Cry's saying she is sexualized. Grow up you are in the modeling profession one that is constantly sexualized. You really think men are looking at your outfits? Show just a little bit of humility and be just a little more humble about yourself and she would be more liked. My hope for her is she gets to the WNBA works on her mid range game and becomes a lot more mature in the way she carries herself. She is a great player but there is something to be said about how one comes off in pressers and interviews. She is still young so she has plenty of time.

I feel like CP was one of the first HS recruits that were crowned as "generational talent" type ballers.... Some of that had to do with where the world was at with media, the internet, etc. Even players like Taurasi/Holdsclaw/Catchings weren't as big news because of the time of their introduction to the world. Nowadays a Juju Watkins has so much hype coming from so many different sources that it brings so much insane attention to her and the sport she plays.

Its interesting too... Juju is amazing, but there were a handful of players in her recruit class that are at a similar talent level. A unique (and not suprising difference) is Juju's marketability... I want everyone to understand that it's never been about the quality of basketball. Well, it is, but if you compare men vs women, we all know which side has higher quality. Having said that, it comes down to entertainment. I find women's basketball lot more entertaining. They're more driven, they're not multi billionaires, they play for the love of the game, in short, it is pure and exciting. So I will pay to see top quality women over top quality men any day of the week. And at the end of the day, it's all about the numbers. If more people tune into women's game than the men's game, NBA will go bankrupt and WNBA will thrive. So to those that claim that men's basketball is higher quality basketball than women, that's irrelevant. At the end of the day, it's about entertainment. Who do we want to pay to see play? Who do we admire? Who do we respect? Who do we find more entertaining? ... Right now, the answer, at least for me, is, women.
@garyco766
6 ай бұрын
Ummmm... bullshit. Higher quality IS more entertaining. Watching players that are faster, jump higher, have insane body control, that put in highlight dunks, IS more exciting - period. Caitlin changed the game for women because she brings some of those aspects to the women's game that hasn't been there before. I find myself watching women's hoops for the first time in years, 100% because of her, and I'm far far far from alone. Before 2023 the highest watched women's basketball game was less than 5M viewers. Last year's championship game got almost 10. This year's semi final Iowa vs UConn got over 14, which is twice as many views as any game that didn't include Caitlin Clark. Ever.

I have all respect for Clark n Angel but ppl who make comments like they the best ever clearly don’t know shit about women basketball. 1st the game is different. 2nd they not going to dominate the wnba They will however bring more ppl to the game n when those ppl come to their first wnba game they will see that it’s a completely different game then college

These ladies are good but this is a flash in the pan. Caitlin is not the first superstar.
@garyco766
6 ай бұрын
But she is the biggest superstar ever. By a mile. The most watched games in women's hoops history have all involved Caitlin Clark. The Iowa vs UConn game had twice as many viewers as any game that didn't include Caitlin, in history, and like 3 times as many as any women's game before 2023. That's superstardom on a level never dreamed of before Caitlin, and if you think the rise in popularity in women's hoops doesn't fall directly on her shoulders, you're lying to yourself.

@Redridge07 Basically. I think people are mostly watching for Clark, and generally more interested in college than pro, so I think she'll draw a little extra attention to the WNBA, but not as much as people might think.
