Fascinating! I enjoy your delivery and have been learning a great deal from your videos. I appreciate that you have taken the time to make these helpful lectures and that you have added all of the supporting documentation for those who wish to go even more in depth. What fun is it to buy a mediocre kit at Michael's when one can delve into the science and make better quality candles and even components for them? Best of luck on achieving your sustainability goals, as stated in your company's mission statement, and thank you so much! PS. We've come a long way since our childhoods when we made candles with an empty vegetable can, block of paraffin wax and a melted crayon. :-D

Thank you so much for your generous comment. My knowing that I can share and pass along some tricks is very rewarding. LOL, yes, my first candle when I was a kid had a paper match as a wick. That paper match fascinated me because it did not burn up right away.

Thank you for your great videos! They are super informative. Will you be making a video on priming and mordanting candles as this was not covered in this video?

I have planned. I have a bit of a request list, and that is going to be included in a video on chemically treating wicks to enhance their burn characteristics. Which comes after glass. Which is next, in the series, of which there are 4 on-going series. Your question inspires me to get into the lab more, which is sone, very soon.

@@GEOsustainable That's great! Thank you! By any chance do you know any books or other sources that explain how scented candles work and how the scent is diffused. I keep on seeing information that scent diffusion has nothing to do with a wick but everything to do with the melt pool. What I don't understand is why then we are bothered by a wick and fragrance oil %. if it's only melt pool that diffuses the scent then while the wax melted it should do the job regardless of the wick. It maybe a silly question by I can't seem to find any reliable answer to it. I'm a bit lost here.

Thank you so much for the video! I didn't find the links for video of braiding the wicks in the description, so thats seems to be missing. Also I have a few questions about selecting a wick. I still don't understand how to do it. Basically the problem is that with the beeswax if I use the wick that is too large, the container gets too hot. And if I use a smaller one there's a tunneling happening. Is it even possible to balance it out? How would you do it? And also how exactly is the process of selecting goes? I don't think it is fully covered here or I'm missing something. What do you do after you tested your candles with simple braided wicks? Thanks in advance, your answers are most appreciated!

I put the link to the braiding video on screen, look to the top right of the video. The white dot with an exclamation point. If your wick is too large, and the next size down is too small, is it possible to use 2 wicks in your candle? That works very well. To use my method, use a flat ply wick. They go in 3 yarn increments...6 ply, 9 ply, 12 ply...up to 60 ply. Once you have the right size, use the yield data to select other types of wick. What that means is that YIELD is the main data point. It never fails, I always leave something out. Thanks for pointing that out.

@@GEOsustainable This makes sense now! I guess I'm a lil bit slow, but now I get it thanks to you :)) Here's another thing I hope you can explain. What is the difference between primed and not primed wick? How important that is?

@@helenkingtavion I just saw this. It is best to make a new comment so I get the alert. A primed wick is coated with wax. So, the wax on the wick is the first fuel to begin the capillary action of drawing the candle wax.
