About 15 years ago, I had a male Cane Corso that was about 115-120 pounds which is the perfect athletic weight for this breed as it loves to run. My Cane loved to run and would outrun my neighbors Labrador and Golden Retrievers. He excelled in obedience training and was easy to train. He was a natural guard dog and would protect his backyard. One time, he got out of the back yard as the backyard gate was left open by my son. He hanged out in the front yard and we got a phone call from the UPS man saying "Your big dog will is in the front yard and will not let me deliver a package." I went outside and there was my Cane sitting down and just staring hard at the UPS man. Another time, I heard loud barking at 3am and my Cane was hitting hard the iron gate and was very angry. My neighbor called and said two men are trying to steal your car's wheels. The criminals fled in a car when I turned on the lights and let my Cane out to the front yard. My Cane save my car's wheels that would have cost me about $1500 to replace. He died at 10 years old and had severe dysplasia from old age. He was the best dog I had and was a very loving dog too. I do not have a dog as I am too busy but in the future, I will get another Cane Corso.

@@Glo_up576 It is a difficult question to answer. We just got a 13 month old male 10 days ago. Quite a handful. (Big puppy, and not the most well trained) Wonderful dog, but it is not a dog for anyone. It is a strong minded dog, and very sensitive as well. I am the leader of the family, and I have shown him from day 1, leadership and consistency. Very important! He can stay home alone, but a Cane Corso just wants to be as close to its leader as much as possible. I see it because he follows me around a lot in the house. I train with him, and he is quite intelligent and aware. Very observing to whatever going on. Again... Not a dog to have for show-off. This a a dog that takes time. Give it time, give it strong leadership.. this breed can be one of the best and most loyal family pet and protector.

I studdied the Cane Corso long before purchasing one. After my puppy was 5 months old i bought another Corso. My dogs were so sweet and loving i thought all the warnings had to be wrong. My dogs were sweet and loving to everyone. When they turned a year old it was like a switch went off. My sweet loving dogs turned into fierce protecters that no longer welcomed strangers and animals. Loyal to me always yet a very serious dog. I wish I had listened to the warnings and had been prepared. The neighbor down the road from me feared my dogs. One day I had a knock at the door. It was the neighbor thanking my dogs for scaring off the Coyotes from killing his newly born calves. Just the thunder of the Corso's bark is enough warning for prediters. I absolutely love my Cane Corso's. I can't imagine them not having a job to do. They guard the livestock and inside the home. They need the mental stimulation as much as physical. Please train and socialize early in their lives. Don't make the mistake I did thinking your dog is special and exempt from the warnings of professionals. I wish i had done more when my dogs were puppies.

Yelling and hollering at them does damage not help and never ever hit them. You need to put the love , patience and nurturing as you would a young child . You will be rewarded infinitely if you nurture and love them like your own .

My Corso was a Rescue. He's been a bit of a handful due to having nearly 2 years of bad habit behaviors to break. It took forever to get him to let us leave him for any period of time but he has accepted it slowly. He has a kennel and I think he feels safe in it when we leave for short periods. He has a massive hatred for Cats and some cats have actually tried to torment him which I found quite amazing that a cat actually teased him it was like a tom and Jerry skit playing out. He has instincts for bulls not cows but full size super hormone packed muscle bound bulls he just perks up even if he can't see them and just barks or will bristle his hair on his back with a very alert stance. Aside from the bulls and cats he's fine, he does try to assert himself with other dogs but it's not an issue unless the other dogs aren't fixed. He's still very kind to other dogs in general, and never aggressive with people we clear. If a stranger comes to the door he will be on guard unless he's told to do otherwise. In public he seems to be able to discern who's good and bad and he's vocal about it he talks allot. He will chuff if he doesn't like something. He bonded strongest to me and he will mope in depression if I disaprove of his behavior. We know now to that his kennel can't hold him if he's intent on getting out. He has destroyed a kennel already without much effort. If anyone acts in an aggressive truely violent way he will react. Play fighting doesn't get him but real violence does so much so that when it's on TV he knows who the bad guys are and barks at them. He goes crazy when bad guys hurt good guys in real life and loves live PD his favorite show. He is still a puppy in behavior and he's about 3 1/2. He loves being with his people and will whine if he can't sleep in your bed. His previous owners abused him but he didn't become violent. When we got him he had a cigar burn on his head and was suffering exposure to Meth. It took six months to get him out of his drugged like state. He loves garbage lol but cows ears and pig snouts are his favorite. His bite force is insane he will eat horns cow horns, buffalo horns anything hard is gone in seconds. The super duty Kong chew toy lasted a week. He sees destroying his toys as a challenge. He tattles on the kids when they are sneaking around in the kitchen at night. He does a ton of trucks, sit, stay, hold, lay down, play dead, shake, fist bump, nose bump, low five, high five, he'll hold his treat on his nose for fifteen minutes or until you say he can have it. He's fully house trained and cries in shame if he couldn't make it. He has a sensitive stomach and can't have lots of different food without tons of the runs. He can open doors and the fridge, he's a strong swimmer but doesn't like baths. I love my buddy and I'll be getting another one soon. Gonna get a black female named Karma.

They are the trifecta--loyal, smart, and large. Because they are so intelligent, one should already know how to train and bond with a dog. Same, same, due to their size. Because of both of these factors, added to their intense loyalty, socializing them with other animals, people, and places is also a must. A first time dog owner could easily get overwhelmed by these needs. They are amazing dogs and worth the effort, though!

Thank you Will. As usual perfect insight. i am from Rome, Italy and I am deeply in love, obsessed about Cane Corsos. I can't own one (at the moment) cause I do not have experience with dogs and I do not have a house with a large garden..but no matter what i will have a Cane Corso as my future second dog. Until then I give snacks everyday to a female black Cane Corso of 6 yrs. She lives in a small farm like villa in a big park near by my house with 4 mini black doodles and 3 or 4 cats and lots of other animals 🙂. She became affectionate to me in just two days ..she let me pet her behind the fences while she never lets anyone or any dog get close. She barks real rarely , but she is super intelligent and has a got instinct . Knows who is good and who is not. She loves when I play with her and guards the mini doodles as her puppies. Sometimes they let me into this villa and then she asks me to get belly rubs and hugs. I am so much in love with all the Cane Corsos that it breaks my heart that I wouldn't own one (for now) . I am a small size lady and rather than me taking it out, the cane corso would give me a ride out .. 🙂...so professional training starting by 10 weeks old for sure (other wise the cane corso would train me seriously 🙂). I would like a clone of Will here in Rome. Then no matter what it would cost me, I would entrust my dog (any breed small or big) to him. Thank you Will for your guidances. Love your videos. After much research into the breed we pick our cc puppy in 2 wks, I'd luv to know how much exercise I should give him whilst he's a baby to look after his joints, as he needs to be out every day socialising. Thanks great video Will

I was a fur momma to Keiser he was a fawn old English mastiff born on mother's day ,1998 he was awesome I also had two shihTzu in our fur family and my 10 lbs doggies were the leaders lol he grew up weighing 184lbs and was 43in. That was what his measurements were at his, 14 mo. Vet appointment but I'm interested in adopting another but I'm not know much about cane corsos but I did raise an old English mastiff

I spent 1.5 years looking for a dog. Corso, Doberman or Malinois was what I settled on while searching. I spent a lot of time learning the breeds and I thought it was going to end up being a Doberman. I like the end result of a trained Malinois, but i decided i was to lazy to pull it off. I dug into it a bit more and talked to people who owned each type. Doberman ownership sounds like a job, which is great for someone who is not a natural chief. You can spend 6 hours a day working your dog and it will be a great dog. I am a natural chief. I got the Cane Corso. An unemotional loud voice and unshaking finger was all it took to train the best dog I have ever had.

you can call me a dreamer, since my planning goes way beyond reasonable time. But I currently have a Golden Retriever (female), a American Stanford (Male), and a Bombai Cat (female). I specifically chose that combination based on my needs, their needs, and a balanced lifestyle that allowed us to feel safe walking at 3am, but also calm in public places such as airports and restaurants. It has worked very well overall, and I'm already thinking on my next combination, since they won't live forever and I do not have the emotional strength to keep going by myself if I loose them. So I thought of a Cane Corso a next in line of secession after my American Stanford passes away, hopefully many years from now. I believe it would be a perfect fit to the lifestyle I'm working to achieve, so by the time I can get that I want to also feel ready to have this breed. My question would be, how much more different a Cane Corso is from an Amstaff or Pitbull when it comes to training? I understand the basic lining of danger behind a medium breed to a giant breed, and that's why I want to be as prepared as possible, so we can both enjoy our life at it's fullest when it comes the time. Thank you for any advise, from any of the many experienced owners on this channel.

All true but the drooling. My cane corso doesn’t drool and neither the ones I had before. They are not allowed in the dinin room though and I guess it’s also the line. As for loyalty gosh never seen a dog like that and the females I have/had are super fast learners with one only peed once in the house and then she got it immediately that she was supposed to do it outside. The sweetest companion, they never attack but they are bloody good in intimidating strangers. However, the moment they understand that a particular person is a friend, they will immediately switch their attitude to friendly and at times also playful. Amazing animals

That whole "Not good for first time owners" is so annoying. how about not good for idiots. That's what they said about American akitas and I did just fine with mine. Research research research, understanding they are strong and stubborn, learning dog behavior especially for the breed you want, know what energy level the breed is and if that breed is a match for your lifestyle. Watch people train there dogs or go to a dog park even if you don't have one yet. Assume it will be difficult, and that you will need patience. That's what I did and it worked out.

Very good points, they say the same thing about Rottweilers and mine was my first dog and I never had a problem with him no matter if he was home by himself or if I took him out on the road with me, only issue I ever had was he was very alert of my personal space and didn’t like strangers too close to me. Dogs aren’t tons different than people each one is different and have a different personality, do your homework and if possible visit a breeder and spend some time with one, that’s the best way to know what you’re getting yourself into. I am currently searching for a Cane Corso myself

A mongrel dog breed , only recognized in usa and italy recently too. A farm utility breed man made in the 80s to look like an extinct breed of war dog. Nowadays used for guarding or companionship.

I haven't had the issue of my Cane Corso being angry and destructive while being alone. She could sleep on her bed the whole day and be alone without any problems but she does prefer being next to someone. Also, when we put her into her reasonably large fenced area (for a puppy), she dug a hole underneath the fence EVERY time.

Hi - I have a 4 yr old blue cane corso named Roxie (my first cane corso however have owned bullmastiffs prior). Roxie is a very sweet, gentle girl (I have an english bulldog as well who plays hard with her). I have no reservations about Roxie in our home or with our bulldog. She is a sweet, gentle soul. I do have issue with her in public or around groups of people. She has so much anxiety that she pees on herself. If I take her to the dog park, she will not let anyone (except us) come near her and if someone tries, she barks and jumps up and down on her front paws. She wants to be social and will eventually approach if she is ignored. If she sees a bicycle, she will try to climb the closest tree. I am somewhat fearful that this anxiety/fear can turn to aggression in public. Is this normal behavior for a cane - btw = she came to us this way. We are experienced dog owners and haven't had such an anxious dog before.... thx, Laura

The only reason why the breed now has epilepsy issues is because someone in the US decided they wanted a thinner looking dog for (show) and added a breed that was not common in the bloodline and that is the problem now the old bloodlines never had that issue

I just got a rescue corso from the shelter. I like her so much but I have a micro yorkie and shih tzu/chihuahua mix. How would you recommend me socializing them? Should I be concerned with her hurting them due to their size? (I’ll definitely never leave them unsupervised)
@mamichula1177

These dogs prey drive is out of this world and if your little dog runs, they will chase and catch. You should’ve done socialization at the shelter before adoption. They actually should’ve requested it. I suggest you get a professionals assistance or return the dog before you mess up and someone gets hurt.

Cane Corso is the 3rd most prominent breed in Canada . Only the golden retriever and the shih-tzu outnumber the Cane Corso in Canada as of today. I've noticed alot of us breeders look like they've been crossing them with great Danes to get size and weight. Most breeders I've noticed in Canada have been staying away from cross breeding now that I'm quite familiar with breeders around me.
