Love the video! I too have a Doberman. We adopted him a month ago and he was under weight because of the situation he was in. The rescue had been feeding him Purina One Puppy food to give him more calories to get his weight back. But we didn’t like what was in Purina so we are trying to switch to Victor Professional. We were trying to gradually introduce it with his Purina, but he got diarrhea that night. Did anyone else have the same effect? If so, what did you do to fix it?

Would you recommend for Rottweilers?
@LincolntheCaneCorso
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Rotties tend to have issues with hip and joints as they grown older. I would look into definitely including supplements for hips and joint along side dog food recommended for larger breeds. Taking into consideration how active they are as well and what age/ stage they are in. Also how sensitive they are to certain ingredients will affect what brand you choose. It's really a trial and error and hard to just give you a brand because all dogs, even within the same breed, react so different. I currently have my dogs on Cosco's Kirkland brand of dog food which is made by Diamond Pet Foods. And, personally, all three (of differing breed) do fine on it. But I do switch their food out from time to time for variety and excitement..

My 4month old BullyPit is on nutri source large breed puppy but has been getting bumps all over her and I mean all over, I thought it was something in the yard so I started keeping her off there other than potty but it hasn’t went away so now I’m thinking it might be the food. I’m gonna give this one a try and hope that it works. Have you heard anything bad about nutri source?
@LincolntheCaneCorso
3 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness!! That sounds painful 🥺 does she scratch them? Has it happened for long? have you always fed her that brand or new switch? It sounds like she might be allergic to something, possibly in her food. Nutri source has had a recall on their pure Vita line but for possible elevated vitamin D content. The NS large breed puppy food does have Brewers yeast which some dogs are allergic to. Some signs are skin infections, rashes, etc. I've had them on pure balance pro large breed and that doesn't have Brewers yeast. If that doesn't work she might be allergic to more common foods like chicken, dairy, eggs.. might have to do some diet elimination to figure it out.

@@LincolntheCaneCorso I got the victor hi pro on Saturday and started introducing it to her, she likes it but I hope it helps to clear it up. It’s a little too early to tell but I feel like it’s helping already. She’s been going thru this for a couple weeks now. It just got really bad and I don’t like seeing her like that. When we went to the vet and I brought it up, they were saying it could be outside allergies and that it happens to puppies but I’m not buying it, I know it’s more than just outside allergies

@@africanbeastify Oh then definitely sounds like its the brand if happened since she started eating that food. Will have to find out which ingredient it is. Maybe check with where you got her and what kind of brand food they were giving her? see if you could stick to the one or another brand with same ingredients.

@LincolntheCaneCorso
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! So there seems to be a lot of controversy with first ingredients being just Beef/Chicken or Beef meal/chicken meal. From my research Ive seen that having the first ingredient be just the meat is actually worse since dog food companies can lie (or be sneaky) based on weight since the final resulting product is dried kibble. The meat "meal" has more protein since it is concentrated. With that out of the way, next controversy would be grains. To feed grains or not to feed grains, that is the question... I personally do not mind feeding my dogs grains since our ancestors have domesticated our dogs and they fed them scrapes of whatever they ate - including grains - (not this new age kibble stuff we now feed them). Every dog will have different needs, allergies, food digestion, etc. so its a bit of a trial and error. Victor food does not have any recalls so that's a good note on this brand. Looking at the ingredients of Victor Performance I see they have good ingredients also including glucosamine and Chondroitin percentages which large dog breed need for joints and hip issues they tend to have due to their size and weight. There are worse brand of dog food out there and better ones of course too.

Oh man, I've got a picky one as well, so I know the battles😭 Right now I've got them on a different brand it's the cosco Kirkland and she seem to enjoy this one. But when she very picky what helps is adding some no-salt chicken or beef broth to the kibble and that does the trick.

A few things I have to say about this, First off, never just go straight from one food to another. It's really hard on their stomachs and can cause some serious diarrhea. Secondly, that particular bag she chose is not grain free which is why it weighs 40 lbs. instead of 28-30 lbs. like Victor's better dog food. Also, that Protein that's labeled 81%, is how much of the protein is digestible, whereas the other 19% is not. That does NOT mean 81% of the food is protein. It is saying, of THE TOTAL protein it DOES have, 81% is from meat. That 40 lb. bag has 8 lbs. of total protein (8 lbs. of meat, so only 20% of the bag is actual protein and the rest is garbage filler) in it, whereas a dog food like Orijen- Tundra (or a higher grade of grain free Victor dog food) that's only a 30 lb. bag actually has around 20 lbs. of protein in a 30 lb. bag meaning 66% of the bag is meat protein. So in laments terms, although the food she is giving them is still better than most grocery store dog foods, it is still just above the level of what I would call garbage. If you look at the serving sizes, you have to feed the dog way more scoops from this bag than you do a better dog food because it has to eat far more to get the daily required nutrients. More food means WAY more pooping, not as digestible, so softer poops. I hope people watching this video who want a good dog food do not buy this. There are much better Victor dog foods than this one. If you want a better explanation, type in "victor dog food- you heard it hear first" and you will find a guy explaining what I just told you much better than I can.

@@drogon2988 wasn't sarcasm. Just thanks for your input. Obviously we cannot tell people's tones in comments (although I would assume yours to come out a bit attacking..) I do transition them when switching and always switching different kinds of foods so they won't get bored of eating the same cereal every day. If you watched my other videos, I have stated that and also that eventually I want to give them full raw because I know that fresh is best than processed food. Anyways I never claim to know everything and always learning to be better. So yeah thanks for your input as it helps me and others .

Usually when a dog food says it is grain free it just means it has peas in it instead of corn, which doesn't really make much of a difference. Dogs should be eating mainly meat, not corn or peas, don't fall for marketing scams.
