This issue is ancient history. The gun was originally designed for NATO rounds more common in Europe but they have since replaced the spring for lighter loads. Hardly any problems reported since. Canik is very good about responding to feedback.

The first Canik I ever got to see and handle, was in March of 2021. It was a TP9 SC Elite. The price was $429. I had the money so I bought it. I have not once regretted buying it. It's my EDC. All of the mags I own for my Caniks are OEM (MecGar) mags. I use the 15 round mags for the SF Elite with "Bloody Wheels" magazine sleeves. I installed Fision U-Notch rear and orange ringed front night sights. It's trigger is every bit as sweet as those on the Walther PPQ SC LE.

After I ran about 200 rounds through the gun I had no further issues and I didn't need to have a "death grip" on it, which is good because I don't have the hand strength for that. I was initially very worried and disappointed. Now I am 100% satisfied and the gun is performing to my expectations, which were very high based on all my previous research. Even in modern manufacturing, sometimes things don't work right. A few years back my sister had a brand new Toyota Corolla. After 8 months and 4 replacement transmissions they had to buy it back from her under the lemon law. This is why, no matter what you buy for a defensive firearm (I'm looking at you Sig Sauer), you should test it! No manufacturer is above producing a bad egg.

Picked up the SF9 Elite about a week ago. I had one stove pipe that day, I only shot 50 rounds of federal 9mm, the gun was right out of the box. Today, after a good cleaning and oiling, I brought it to the range and shot about 500 rounds, with ZERO issues. Ammo used, about 200 Rounds of FMJ 9MM bulk ammo(cheap), 100 rounds of Magtech, 100 rounds of Federal, and then got into the good stuff, that I will keep it loaded with and shot about 25 rounds of Hornandy, 25 rounds of Guard Dog, and 25 rounds winchester JHP. I am keeping it loaded the Guard Dog for SD. I really enjoyed the feel, gun felt balanced. It does have some heft to it, but I did not have a problem shooting one handed (both hands). Never felt like I was keeping a death grip on it, and kept my groups pretty tight at 20-25 yards. Loaded with 15+1, it tips the scale around 2.2 pounds, so this will be my truck gun. Not too bulky for EDC, but I have other guns that don't print as much and are much lighter.

This video is 2 years old and is right after the release of the pistol. The first batch of these were sent out with recoil springs set for 124 grain "NATO" rounds. This caused many buyers issues shooting 115 grain rounds failure to eject and jamming. This was fixed with a different recoil spring. I waited for the second batch and checked the one I bought before purchase to be sure it had the updated spring. Mine has been reliable just like every other Canik I own. So along with the Turks they installed heavy springs. I could not put a number on the spring, there was one post that tested the spring out @ 20 lbs. I believe once the spring was matched problems solved. Maybe QA did not check on proper springs. I will shoot it next week and Cycle a mixed batch. This manufacturer is know for quality.

I almost became very discouraged from buying a CANIK after watching this video, but this is the ONLY time I’ve EVER heard or seen anyone have any issue with jamming on the TP9SF elite out of everything I’ve researched. I think you may have either gotten a lemon (it happens, manufacturer should replace); you’re using just incompatible ammo; or honestly, it may be attributed to the fact that you’re left handed. Not a punch at being a leftie at all, but it makes sense, and you did say it improved with a 2-handed death grip. Just a thought.

I have heard of this issue. I have also heard people say gun needs 500+ rounds 124-147 grain ammo to "break in". I own this pistol and have had exactly 0 issues through the 1,500 + rounds I have ran through it. The first 1,000 rounds I ran through it were Blazer Brass 115 grain, not 1 issues whatsoever. One thing I did have was a magazine issue, not a functional issue but, 1 mag spring was so stiff I could only fit 14 rounds in it for the first 5-6 times I ran it, after that loading 15 was no problem. Something I do with every single firearm I have ever purchased new or used "I have only ever purchased a few used so we are mainly talking about new firearms " is that I break the gun down and completely clean it, get all of that factory assembly lube, the carbon from test firing ect.. out of the weapon then, I lubricate it with a good lubricant. "Maybe this is a difference? Maybe not?"

Thanks for the heads up. I have searched and found lot's issues for the TP9sf Elite. Many videos from three years past to recent videos. All of what I have viewed is related to stove pipes, failure to feed and no fire. You did a great job on the review. I have found that feed and ejections issues related to spring issues. I noticed that weak ejection of rounds land on sleeves of shooters. Once new spring kit installed seems to have solved some of those issues. On the hang fire/no fire the trigger was not making components of the firing train. Seem from the trigger bar to transfer, not a lot of room for error. Lot's of positive hype out there on how this weapon blows away the Glock 19! Not a Glock geek but I did carry a 19 on patrol for five years, always had faith in no feed or hang fires issues from happening. So I called my supplier and put a hold on my Canik order. I want to get manufacturing date in order to trace any issues that have not been corrected by Canik during production. Going back to my 1911 EDC for now. I did purchase a BUL Cherokee, not a true compact but will eat and feed any ammo, it's just a bit heavy for Florida CC when I visit. I use a DTOM fanny pack with a Canon Camera LOGO on it, makes me look like tourist geek. Thanks for sharing the info.

I also carried a Glock 19 for work and love Glocks in general, but can promise you that the tp9sf elite is not at the level of problems you think it is. Mine has been flawless and in fact I'm on my second one as my buddy wanted the first one after shooting it. Yeah they had heavy springs at first and that's because they are NATO spec pistols. That's not a failure of the gun at all, it's a failure of the ammo manufacturers for watering down the damn ammo over the years. You have to remember that in Europe and the rest of NATO they don't run 115gr weak sauce ammo they use NATO spec ammo.the rest of the issues you brought up literally happened only once or twice out of thousands of pistols. For every one complaining owner of a Canik you can't bet 50k are happy and satisfied!!! They don't even have a 1 percent failure rate not even close!!! The problem is most happy customers aren't on the webs being loud about how great it is. They just go about their day and enjoy owning it. You have fallen prey to an extremely loud super small minority that make people believe that things are falling apart and people fall for it cause they scream the loudest!!! Nope, the tp9sf elite is gonna give you just as good of service as a Glock 19. Honestly you nor 99 percent of people won't shoot enough to even notice if there's a difference in service life or serviceability!!! Trust me when e say this that Glocks have just as many problems as Caniks do, and that's not many at all!!! In fact I had a Glock 41 that was an unholy piece of crap just last year and was super ammo picky, and constantly had problems jamming stove piping and failures to feed. Doesn't mean Glocks are bad, but my failure rate has been higher with Glocks than Caniks.

Just get your Canik and run a few boxes of Winchester 12rgr NATO ammo and it'll run anything after that.

Too bad for the elite, a year and a half, thousands of rounds through my tp9sf, no problems, very accurate. Just don't use brassmaxx ammo.

That 124gr nato 9mm is running +p pressures and these pistols are made specifically for those nato rounds, after 1 to 2 hundred it'll run flawlessly

It’s the ammo causing the issue, hence why it’s said to try different ammo to see if your firearm will fully feed and eject it

Im late to the party but, my first Canik was a TP9SFX, I only have 400 rounds through it, but never had a problem right out the box. Such that, I picked up the Canik TP9SC Elite, which I have over 1,000 rounds with not one hiccup. Im thinking, bad batch.

man I could have sworn that I've watched this video already a while back are you reposting it or I'm losing my mind either way it's a sample of one. If it is a manufacturer problem with the recoil spring Canik should cover it under warranty.

The failure to eject is common with this, and several other semi-autos when brand new. These do require a brief "Break-in" period. I've bought some very expensive, brand name guns that didn't start to function RIGHT until I'd put up to 500 rounds through them!

My tp9 elite works great... my glock 19 does not!!! 6000 rounds with the canik and zero malfuntions... why didn't you consider your pistol has a factory problem? or.maybe I am.not convinced you are objective on this matter🤔

The Canik is designed for nato 124 grain ammo. The 115 grain was causing weak ejections. Canik will send you a new spring if you have the old one I’m told.

@@SaneNoMore I've heard exactly the same thing about them sending a different spring with no hassle. I almost bought one of these, but for over $100 less, I opted for the Tanfoglio Witness. I may still pick one up, but the first thing that I'm going to do is request the lighter spring.
@SaneNoMore

@@Ctatyk The spring problem was only on the first batch (first 511 issued) also they had a 2017 recall that they did when the Sig 320 mess became big (abusive drop test). I just bought one just last month and they have a serial number check you can do to see if any updates are needed. Mine (produced at the end of 2017) did not need either the spring or what they call the 'abusive use' parts update.

Don't know whether he did or not but when he was manually cycling the slide that spring sounded like a fifty year old mattress squeaking. A little lubricant goes a long way. $300 gun or a $3000 dollar gun clean and lubricate before shooting.

You didn't mention which Blazer you were using but the glimpse I caught looked like aluminum. The regular aluminum blazer is a little "sticky" in some guns. Blazer Brass is excellent.

Damian Grouse I generally don't have good luck with Blazer 115gr. I have other handguns that just don't like it, also. Aluminum & steel cased ammo of any brand in any weight give me issues, but I usually use brass-cased 124gr and heavier without any issues whatsoever.

I don't have this Canik(yet) but several years ago bought the Canik C-100, which is basically a clone of the CZ-75 COMPACT. Mine is accurate enough that I tape 3 inch by 5inch index cards on the man sized target. This is to simulate a hostage situation where that tiny sliver is the only piece of the bad guy that can be hit. Having an accurate pistol and being confident goes a long way towards winning the fight. And the sights on mine aren't anything to write home about. I will probably get the SF, or SFX Model of the TP9. I really want to see if those Warren sights make any difference.

My Elite stove piped at first with standard ammo. A handload of 115/124gr bullet loaded @ 1200fps ran without problem. Seems as if the gun's oversprung for regular US 9mm ammo and is set up for NATO strength rounds. I, too, got a new spring and it runs everything now. Nothing wrong with the gun initially if fed ammo that ran to the gun specs.

When i get to Virginia, I want to get this model. This is the 1st video iv seen that the rounds are not injecting, blazer rounds are very good. Due to lockdown I'm stuck in UK, but its not that I can go to the NRA range in VA even if i was there this minute, so until flights are up and running, I will have to wait, but for some reason, if I order it, get my wife to pick it up as long as I order 1 for her.

I don't have the Elite, yet. I do have the TP9SF and only shoot my handloads through it. They are 124g loaded to NATO specs and never a problem. The recoil spring is usually the culprit on these new guns if using the lighter stuff. They are made for hotter ammo than the typical 9mm offerings in the USA like WW white box and Blazer stuff.
