STARRING in this indie film from the US, is American Vishy Ayyar who talks to www.asianculturevulture.com in Cannes about how he came to be in this movie.
It is not released yet and is playing at festivals currently and premiered at the Sante Fe Film Festival in New Mexico in April.
It was the opening film of the festival and won two awards there - Best Actress for Veronica Falcón and a cinematography prize for Derek Fisher.
It is a story of redemption and about a man who hits rock bottom financially and finds his way out through Mixed Martial Arts after spending time inside.
The story has been compared to Slyvester Stallone’s ‘Rocky’.
Two well established Hollywood names have substantial roles in the film - Falcón features as gym owner, Marcella. She has been in a slew of series that include ‘Ozark’, ‘Queen of the South’ and currently in the US, can be seen in HBO channel’s reboot of ‘Perry Mason’.
Danny Trejo has a long career in Hollywood and is a veteran now, having started out an extra and in rehab. He is an ex prisoner in real life and in this plays the trainer of Jai (Ayyar) who comes out of retirement to help his former student.
Ayyar trained for the role and tells us about his acting experience and what it means to be a lead in a movie like this and be aside seasoned professionals.
The film is directed by Gustavo Martin, written by Matt Anthony, Ayyar and Martin. The indie film has a number of different producers.
