Good morning from Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦. I absolutely LOVE beets as well. With grocery prices the way they are, I have been growing a vegetable garden. I am at beginner level for canning but I have bought some books and watch your channel. Learn, learn, learn. 😊 I am enjoying your channel. Keep up the great work 👍 😊.

I love beets too -- hubby "hates" them so much that he won't even let me plant them (actually I don't know if he's ever HAD a beet, his Mom couldn't stand them so I'm pretty sure they never had them growing up) ... I've wondered if I could feed him some YELLOW beets and gauge his reaction.

My brother “hated” beets as a kid but mom cut them into matchstick with carrots and stir fried them. She burned them a bit because they caramelized. He has loved them over the past 40 years. 😂❤

I just watched this video on canning your beats. My first thought was why did you use plain water instead of the water that you cooked the beats in. ? I always used the water from cooking the beats. This was how my mom made canned beats. When you used the water from the cooked beats your beats will keep their color and texture and taste. Plain water dilute everything.
@OurHalfAcreHomestead

Thank you for that. Nobody ever taught me how to can beats so I appreciate the tip.❤

@@OurHalfAcreHomestead Whenever you want to cook your beats always leave about 2inchs of the stem . This helps the beats from bleeding out. Save the cooking water to cover the beats in your canning jars I will also use the same water to make pickled Beets.

Thanks for reminding me I'd like to can beets for next so I'll be ordering some seeds. No one else around here but I'd like to have some on the shelf. I like them pickled boiled and have found that I really like them roasted in the skin then slip the skin off while pretty hot add butter salt and pepper and maybe just a little bit of balsamic vinegar really yummy they get so sweet you wouldn't even believe they were the same vegetable

I have such ridiculous anxiety over my jiggle pressure canner. Does it need to just steady jiggle or, is it okay of it let's a few jets of heavy steam out?
@colleenpritchett6914
2 жыл бұрын
Steady jiggle, turn down your heat to your sweet spot on your stove and then the jiggler will drop as temperature drops and come back up. You ideally want it to jiggle between 1-3Xs a minute. Once you find your sweet spot and you’ve canned a few loads you will be comfortable. I was the same I. The beginning with a stop watch lol. The key is the sweet spot on your stove. Mark it with felt pen. Happy canning!

I love beets! It seems like people either love them or hate them. I've got a 30' double row of them growing in the garden this year, and plan to make both plain and pickled beets. So sorry about that cracked jar, but six jars are better than none, eh? I thought about you last Saturday - One of my neighbors gave me another large bag of Satsumas (mandarin oranges) from his daughter's yard and I made some Satsuma jelly. - They're little jars of intense, orange Florida sunshine! I wanted to send some to you and to my friend in Saskatchewan, but don't know if customs will allow it.
