My all time favourite saxophonist! His tone is so expressive, full and rich at the bottom of the register and at the top ( something not easy on alto sax!). Amazing sense of time, swing and an infinite musical box of original ideas. Long live Cannonball!!

I had the pleasure of conversing with Brother Yusef on the phone when I ordered a cd, he answered the phone; I had to step back and gather myself.

A fitting tribute to the GREAT JOHN COLTRANE whom both men performed with. 'BALL was greatly influenced by 'TRANE after he joined 'TRANE in MILES' BAND!!! YUSEF encountered 'TRANE in Detroit where 'TRANE spent much time at. Met & married the woman who became his wife in Detroit Alice McLeod. Now, all these GREAT PERFORMERS have gone on into the next dimension. The only one still alive is Louis Hayes. What incredible MEMORIES he must have!!!

This tune with Lateef reminds me of him doing "Misterioso" with this band. Were they done at the same time? I was surprised to see Joe Zawinul played with these guys. Did not know that till recently.

7:40 You can tell by the body language didn't care about being in charge. Many band leaders would have been intimidated by Yusef Lateef and later Charles Lloyd. Cannon put the music first!

It sounds to me like it is in 11/8. You can divide it into a two measure pattern as if the measures alternate between 6/8 and 5/8. An easier way to feel or count it might be 3 + 3 + 3 + 2.
