The island is probably still private property, but nobody bothered you anyway. That first Brown was an impressive fish!

It's common on the grand river, I believe the Canadian Navigable waters act keeps me covered here as it is essentially flood land (below high water mark). Occasionally owners may have a deed for the river bottom and plain on some stretches of certain rivers. It was deep away from most houses, I had no fires and took out some garbage laying around, no guilt at all.

Nice man. I did this stretch dozens of times in my younger years. Probably the best brown trout water that exists in Ontario. Still make a point of doing it whenever I make it back down that way. Great videos, keep rockin it!

Hey thanks! Agreed I prefer bigger water and it's the largest river in the area with resident populations. Would like to see it become catch and release, but many of the private stretches of many cold tribs help protect populations.

Nice video and fish along the way. Switching to spinning gear is not cheating. Getting them on fly or spinners is fun either way

Awesome adventure.... Beautiful area and boy did that look like a lot of fun. I dig the solo canoe... I paddle with the few folks in northern Michigan that use them... hope to add one next year. Great video ✌️

It's not actually a solo canoe, but 15ft so it works nicely solo but certainly accommodates someone else relatively easily

How did you record your whole canoe at the very beginning? Did you clamp a 360 go pro to the canoe with the invisible selfie stick?

Trade secret... but yeah pretty much got it. Just tough to get a secure mount, most the stuff off amazon is crap

Great video pal - first I have seen from you. Drop me a line if you are every up that way again. I do a lot of fly fishing in that area. I have a trailer on the Rocky Saugeen River and have two Outcast Commander drift boats. Drop me a line if you are ever back in the area. Took a 24" resident rainbow on a dry last summer - it was holding in 2' of water and I didn't see it until it moved on my fly - thought I was seeing things. There are a few sections of the Rocky downstream from Hwy 6 that can only be accessed by water - I don't think a canoe would make it or at minimum a lot of wading. Lot of private property but I get access at the trailer park. There are a few areas that are like nothing I have every seen east of the Rockys. There are big springs that come in - the waater is cold and crystal clear - the huge fish move into these areas when it warms up in July Aug. It's a lot of sight fishing - you'll think I'm lying when I say I have seen several 10lbs resident browns and schools of Brookies pushing 4 to 5lbs. Very hard to catch - these are big smart fish, the water is not huge and gin clear. I would be happy to show you around - pretty much up there every weekend. You seem like a catch and release guy and are exploring water the way I like to. 95% of my fishing is on the fly - 5wt with 6' med sink leader to 8lbs mono and then my 3 or 4wt set up for dries. Never a bad idea to have a spin rod with a #2 to 4 mepps or a spoon. The hatches in June - specifically the Hendrickson may fly hatch can be pretty spectacular - if you hit it right it is possible to catch some of these monsters on the surface.

Cool stuff man, sounds like you have it dialed in. The rocky is really nice although mostly private or hard access, not easy work usually for those who may think about hitting it up. Getting some of these on the dry would be intense big time, that water is crystal clear and almost drinkable. I'm not far away and commonly hang around that area so I'll be around. Cheers!
