I do apologize for my earlier comments in which I stated that I did not notice any focusing issue with my camera. But after watching your video, I spent good amount of time comparing both sets of images with and without using the magnifying button. Yes, indeed there is a significant difference. The magnified image is much sharper than the other one. I never paid attention to this issue before because I am not a pro-photographer - just a hobbyist. Thank you and may you have a happy and prosperous life.

Yes, I will be using that magnifying glass from now on. I have the worse time. Also thank you for the locking focus tip. I have been using back button AF but couldn't figure out how to lock in on my subject. I would always focus and then let the button go instead of holding it in. Thank you Thank you Thank you.

so you mean the focusing is not reliable. do you still recommend the 6D? anything in canon dslr line thats a bit better?
@cdavey7654

I personally think the most accurate focusing method on the 6d (and most DSLRs) is the center focus point, looking through the optical viewfinder (NOT using live view mode focusing), You can still use the back button focus (which I do with any camera that has that option), and turn off focusing for shutter button.

Great video and clear explanation! I am struggling to understand if my photos lack sharpness because of my gear (6d +Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 Sport) or my technique. I didn’t know about the magnifying glass trick! I’ll try it ASAP! Thanks a lot for posting this.

I do prefer using back button focus (and turn off focus on shutter button), have used this on pretty much all my cameras for 20+ years. I shoot mostly landscape, so I just pick where I want to focus, then recompose (if needed) and shoot.

Hi, Thanks. Thanks. I've actually switched the two buttons around, programmed * button to be AF, and the AF-ON button to be AE-Lock. This is because I am left eye shooter and when holding the camera in portrait it was almost impossible to operate the focusing with my thumb in the way. That little distance between the two buttons are solving this problem comfortably.

Beacause i think, when u zoom with magnifier ans try to lock the focus with half pressing shutter buttom, you cant, coz zoom in goes zoom out and when u zoom in and try to lock the focus with the back buttom, it just lock the focus,

That was AMAZING 🤩 I have been looking for this option for so long. You just killed it with this video. Will be so helpful for Astro in focusing on stars as well. Quick question. When shooting in ai servo or continuous, back button seems to only work as a single focus function. Is there something I’m missing?

Hello. I'm from Bangladesh and using 6D Canon. I have a question e.g. I can't use display to take photos. I always need to use viewfinder. Only when I fix the setting 1/30, f2.8, ISO 320, then I can see the subject on the display. Once I increase my settings like 1/200, f/11 and ISO 320 , I can't see anything on the display. How to resolve the issue?? Any suggestions??

I'm not actually clear why this is better than just using the half press focus of the shutter button, then full press to take the pic. Why would the dedicated button improve focusing at all ?
@ItsSheila
3 жыл бұрын
In my experience it pulled focus much faster than half pressing the shutter. This seems to be an issue only with the 6D that l have tried as l also own the 5d mk iii and just use the shutter button with that one.

I thought that you had to only press ones the back button focus to focus on non moving subjects, and release it ones it was focused and press the shutter, and for moving subjects you have to hold it and press the shutter.. I am confused

I hope you are not trying to use the “live view” focusing all the time (with the 6d and most DSLRs), that is terrible (very slow and not accurate). Much better to just use the center focus point looking through the optical viewfinder, in my humble opinion of course.. 🙂📷
