The C70 is an incredibly attractive camera to me, and I've never been huge on Canon video cameras - my preferences have always gone toward Sony, Panasonic, and Blackmagic. But, the C70 is what I'd describe as a "hybrid video camera." The first camera I'd really say that about. It's a hybrid of true cinema cameras, mirrorless cameras, and video cameras geared toward documentary, one-man-band shooting, run-and-gun, etc. The amazing AF sets it apart from other great documentary/run-and-gun cameras like the FS7 or EVA-1. The form factor leans more toward a mirrorless camera (and I LOVE the way the body is designed). And then it has the DGO sensor from the higher end C300 III. To me, it's a camera for people. Not for production companies, or film sets, but a camera that a videographer can buy and use it to excel in a wide variety of environments, even if some of them may be better suited to a real cinema camera. If I could get any camera right now, in terms of how useful it would be to the jobs I do, it would be this.

Why are people obsessed with building up cameras? :) 99% of people are not shooting in a Hollywood environment, 100% of people who will buy C70 will not shoot in a Hollywood environment, you literally don't need anything except a cheese plate for receivers, mics, wireless transmitters depending on a shoot. C70 is the best solo operator camera right now, for anything solo operators do, and that means events, music videos, corporate work, interviews, short films, serious youtube work, smaller commercials and anything not highend, anything with a small crew and a solo operator, and that's pretty much 99% of everything shot in the world right now. C70 has better ergonomics than anything on the market, and the second best sensor on the market, so that pretty much makes it the best camera for most people for anything they shoot, there is nothing like it in one package.

The C70 is a perfect camera for ownership. When it comes to big productions and film work then cinematographers can rent cameras as needed and maybe even use their C70 as a backup cam.

Nice to read a comment from someone who isn't worried about the intricacies that clients can't even see.. dynamic range, clipping highlights, or raw. I don't waste my time on raw, ever, I don't even use CLOG. Does that make me an amateur? Just use the camera straight up. I'm still using a Canon C300 (the original! only 1080) Matti Haapoja (one million followers on KZitem) even proved that it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between 720, 1080, or 4K. (Go to his channel and see if you can tell - and be honest) Let alone CLIENTS being able to tell the difference. Canon knows how to make cameras that handle well, shoot well, and do post production well. Some people are even saying this camera looks "Video-ish" compared to a Canon C300MK3. That's absurd. If you know what you're doing, you can make a cell phone look like a Hollywood movie, or a Nikon D90.. You just need an imagination. A filmmaker made a movie and got a 3 picture deal from shooting it on a Canon C300 (Mark 1) and his movie is amazing. It's not only about the specs. His movie was called "Blue Ruin." Check out how good it looks 8 years later! kzitem.info/news/bejne/yICll6Woq5Fpe5g

@@Mike0193Azul Exactly! All u have to do is rent a c300 mkiii and use your personal c70 for a b cam on bigger productions. That’s what I would do.

Good overview.. I think you left out the biggest advantage the C70 has for doc work tho.. the size. Depending on the subject, half the battle for doc work can be just getting your camera into the space you're trying to shoot. C70 obviously has an easier time with that than any comparable camera I can think of (even Komodo needs to be rigged out, drawing more attention than a barebones C70).

Yeah, the C70 is a "you don't need anything else" camera, it's a documentary beast as you can easily backpack it to shoots, it's netflix approved, the ergonomics are great and you don't need to rig it up much, for me when I (hopefully) get mine I'll be throwing an EF adapter on with the sigma 18-35 and a rode videomic NTG and wireless go 2 and nothing else

Great practical advice! The RF-mount, it can adapt most other lenses, particularly EF??? So people who love to pick up glass for exciting looks at a bargain price would be well served? As well as Canon mirrorless shooters who want to upgrade for features like ND-filter or desquezze build in?

Depends how much you want to spend and what you shoot! The Komodo will cost you the most just to get it running but is the best camera. I would say the pocket 6k is the next best. The pocket 6k has better resolution, RAW, External SSD recording (or CF or SD), and the mount isn't stupid. I would only recommend the c70 if you're a beginner and need the auto focus. Other than that, the Komodo and 6K pro are much better choices. The c70 is overpriced for what it is.

Pocket 6k pro all day long. A better price with better features. The only downside is a cropped 120fps at 2.8k on the 6k. Also I'm assuming if it's for shorts then you won't need autofocus so RF mount is pointless. Other than that, the pocket 6k is better in every single way.

Thanks for the rundown! I'm curious what the 1080p quality is like... Would you guys be able to test that out at some point? It's gotta be on par or slightly better than the c100ii? I keep struggling with finding reasons to dump the c100ii and pick up the C70 for my ENG work, which only requires 1080p. My other dslr kit fills in the 4k gap well enough for my personal stuffs, but none have internal ND's and proper audio. Or good dynamic range with pleasing highlight roll off. But... they work, so... I'm having an existential camera crisis.

I understand - I'm a C100 M2 shooter that was ready to go to 4K with the C200 when it came out, but WTF Canon? 4.2.0 8bit again??? I would probably go with C70 if it had a EVF option. Canon was suppose to release a C200 M2 in April this year, but crickets so far. I have the same crisis.
