How is that 8K raw footage to edit and work with? I would be interested to know what machine you used for editing the 8K footage, which film editor you used (e.g., FCPX, Resolve, etc.), and what the experience was like.

Actually a lot of my photographer buddies wish canon would just have a photo only version and reduce the cost to like $2500. So many don't need the video capabilities but have to pay for em...
@andyryan_media

Good point... I never considered that as a filmmaker myself. In this day and age, it wouldn't cost less to have "zero" video features.... it would be great to see a $2500 option with R6 mark I video capabilities and R5II sensor and AF. I also think this camera is in a weird spot because they added the one big thing I wanted as a filmmaker, and that is full-size HDMI. I can't justify this camera simply because it removes the Cinema EOS menu and other features like timecode and unlimited recording, but places itself in the price category of a video-centric hybrid. They just firmly made a stronger market for the C400 with this.

@@223annemarie I don’t think this is a negative comment. The camera is awesome and the information is great. But the comment was advice on how to improve this content. It’s a camera and have a good photographer and video DP to film it would show the specs far better. Basically the camera is multiple times better than the cottage in the video. On the R7 it took me a while to work out which method of focusing takes priority over what. For instance if you set spot focus to a button, then when you press that button, spot focus will override whatever other focussing is going on. But otherwise, if you activate subject recognition, it will ignore a box or spot that you may have selected as soon as it finds a subject anywhere on the image. It will be interesting to see the details around how the R5 ii uses eye control on the AF vs the other modes

Looks like quite an impressive piece of gear, though I have no intention of upgrading from my R6 Mk II (or my 7D Mk II or 1DX Mk III, for that matter). Speaking only for myself, I would appreciate it greatly if Canon would at long last get around to producing some 200-800 RF lenses. Lacking that, perhaps Canon could at least let their customers know when these lenses are going to be available. I've put in for "in-stock" alerts with several different retailers, and have been waiting in vain since 2023. I have no plans to move from my Canon gear because I like it, and it suits my needs very well. But a bit of transparency from the company wouldn't come amiss.

It has all these excellent features, but does it have one of the most simple features that has been found on even cheap cameras from other brands for over a decade (that has been missing from most Canon cameras)? That is, can you keep the horizon level on during recording video? It may seem silly, but this one feature will decide whether I purchase one or not. I know it has some self-leveling IBIS thing, but that isn't what I'm asking. I just want to be able to make the camera level myself, because I can see the level on the screen. Any clue if it can do that?

I have yet to switch to mirrorless, and frankly I'm not in a hurry. That said, because I am a part-time professional I know I will have to make the move eventually. When I see this camera what I see is technology that makes skill less and less relevant. We are essentially seeing "point and shoot" come main stream to professional photography. The only real barrier for the average person is price. That means that increasingly what separates the pro from the hobbyist is less about skill and more about the cost of equipment. My teenaged kid is more tech-savvy than I am, which makes sense. But for perspective that means that without the cost barrier in play, she would have an advantage over my 35+ years of experience. That's the world we now live in - fair enough. But she'll never know the excitement of shooting film and waiting for the prints to come back. 😉
