What about square filter holder kits and rectangular filter holder kits?

A good starter setup for sure, as a new R5C owner and currently rigging out. a few alternative options I have come up with to share. I had this cage you showed first, but really didn't like how it covered some of the controls on the right side. So I got the Black Mamba cage instead specifically made for the R5C. This cage just fits like a glove, and does not cover anything. But you do lose some of those mounting points, and the NATO rail. The cage itself also has an extra camera attachment point to make it extra secure. If you get the mamba kit it comes with the cable protector and a handle that uses the ARRI mount system, and not as fast as NATO but not bad at all. Monitoring, I actually didn't like the Ninja V+ because for one that codec it uses is not great for editing in my workflow, but it also restricts the maximum potential of the R5C like no 8K60. I feel since the R5C gives you the wave forms, false color, focus peaking, etc that where an external monitor to add those features is normally a huge benefit, now with the R5C you can really get away with just a display monitor. So in my case I went with a larger, brighter 7" 2400nit monitor for half the price of the Ninja V+. This helps me see what I am doing for self recording and gives me extra confidence outside in bright light. The other common rig setup I see is the V-Mount battery on the back, I do have that and if I was filming run & gun I would probably want that. But for those more static shots. SmallRig makes a clamp for batteries/drives/etc that will hold a USB Power Bank REALLY well. Not only is the mount cheaper than the v-mount option, the real benefit is you can get huge capacity usb power banks for a fraction of the cost of a V-Mount battery. Example my 30,000Mah 65W usb power bank is only $70 and has as much or more capacity as my SmallRig V99 battery that is well over $200 There is no right and wrong for sure, my POV is from a KZitemr mostly doing YT content, and a photographer that wants to use the camera for photoshoots as well. These were things that either worked better for me, or a way to save a pretty decent chunk of money.

Hi Bryan, I'm a big fan of your content, one of the best channels for R5C information - thanks and keep up the great work.

I also discovered that the RF rear caps fit on EF lenses BETTER THAN the old EF caps do (as in the RF caps actually cover the weather-sealing gaskets)

Why would you want to record to the Ninja V+ on the R5C, when the R5C can record 8k60 internally, but the Atomos only supports 8k30 ????
@DeafDirector

Aside from its recording capabilities, there are numerous advantages that come from using the Atomos, just as a monitor alone. I tend to use my Atomos as a backup/proxy recorder and shooting at 8K60 is a setting that I very rarely use.

@@DeafDirector Proxies shouldn't be needed, if the editing PC is sufficiently spec'd, but that obviously varies for everyone depending on their workflow. Using the Ninja V+ as a backup works, if you don't record RAW, but I can't see it as a sufficient backup in a RAW workflow, as you can't record both RAW internally and to the Atomos at the same time.

Thanks for the informative video Bryan🙏 Q: What out of the FXLion are you using to power your Atomos NinjaV+? I have the Smallrig Amount VB50 and it does power the R5C, but can't seem to power the Atomos Shinobi at the same time.

Thank you so much 🥰🤗👏 Would like to get the Ninja V+. But is there a quality differenz between the 12bit internal Raw vs 10bit external Prores Raw? 😬

I bought some of those short (around 1 inch. Long enough to just stick out of brace) usb c extensions and have one screwed down in the small rig brace permanently attached to my camera so I don't have to loosen that screw and also to keep from plugging/ unplugging wearing out the native usb c port on the cam. Then just plug regular usb c cable into the adapter sticking out when needed.

Another superb and very useful video, Bryan 🤩Thanks so much! 👍🏻 Only downside is that will cost me some purchases as I've finally decided to go for the cage and your mini-V-mount solution :))

Stoked to find your channel man, I’ve been looking at picking up all of the above but I’ve been trying to avoid committing the time to all the research to find someone who’s not sponsored & freely provides the honest unbiased opinion a lot of us look for when choosing gear. **ONE MINOR SUGGESTION** At the end of your videos do something other than the weird noise & the hand covering the cam. To give it to ya straight & do same solid you do for us with what ya need to know & no bs in your videos, the weird noise and hand cover makes you look like a peter McKinnon wana be. No offense intended, & honestly Pete’s not a horrible guy to emulate, I’d be lying if i said i don’t catch myself with other nuances that I’ve picked up from watchin Pete’s channel grow too. But if you create something of your own to end the videos with I guarantee it will set ya apart from the others already copying Pete’s good but goofy ending. It’s always better to be the OG who created your own weird noise & move to end your videos vs follow. YOU CAN DO IT! Even if its weird or corny at first at least it will be your own. I could go on with pros but i hope ya consider my 2 cents if anyone else agrees or disagrees I’m interested to know. Now it wont change my feeling about your current imitation ending but I’m curious if others noticed & I don’t mind hearing I’m wrong. Cheers Mahalo Amigo

So glad to have you along for the ride, Chase, and thanks for that thoughtful comment. My little end pop at each of my videos is an inside joke I have with one of my good filmmaking buddies, that we have been doing for fun for years on various projects, I honestly never even really thought about Peter McKinnon when I do it. That being said, I will definitely take what you said into consideration. Thanks so much for the comment and have a great day!
