I never shoot with a lens hood unless it's in rain or heavy snow. Can you not take it off? Also how do you feel this would perform in low light in the rain?
@davetriesthis
Жыл бұрын
@@ramdarass oh I took it off. :)The issue is that in bright sun the hood really does reduce flaring and overexposure, so a hood is useful to have. Also I'm clumsy so tend to bang the front of a lens into walls and objects so I like banging a hood instead. The lens would do extremely well in any environmental condition. It's a very well crafted piece of gear. The lens performs superbly in low light. Forward ahead in the video I have lots of low light samples.

Thank you. I’ve always like 135mm since I had Canon’s EF 135/2 L and its brother the EF 200/2.8 L. Also really like that this lens has image stabilization. Besides the large hood my only other issue , not unique to this specific Canon RF lens but the family is that the user programmable ring moves around to the front of the lens here to near the mount on lenses like the RF 70-200/2.8 IS L. Not always sure where it’s going to end up on the lens. Take care.

If you think the RF 135 is heavy, try adapting the Sigma EF 135... I'm using both today and the Sigma is WAY heavier.

@@davetriesthis :D I really don't think the first one was too fast. However, I have noticed that improvement after it's been done. Btw this video really makes me think about getting a 90 mm for my Fuji X system. It should be an experience similar to Canon 135

I have the Sigma 135 1.8...How would you compare the two? I'm shooting an R6
@davetriesthis
Жыл бұрын
The Canon lens is faster than the Sigma by a good amount, but this is largely visible to me on the R6 II. I haven't shot the new Canon 135 RF on the R6, so I'm not sure if the slower AF there evens out the score at all. IOW, since I haven't shot the combo of the R6 and the 135mm yet, I don't know if the speed improvement is possible on the R6's AF.

There are some lens hoods that are interchangeable with other lenses. For example, the hood from the RF 50mm 1.2L works great on the RF 70-200 2.8L IS. It is smaller and more packable, no vignetting and in my opinion looks better. Given that they have the same filter size, maybe check to see if the hood from the RF 85 1.2L fits on the 135. It is about an inch shorter according to the spec sheet.
@davetriesthis
Жыл бұрын
That's a great idea. I was also trying to see if I could find a 3D printer file for the threads on the lens and print one. I thought a custom 3d printed hood might be nice. :)

Thank you for your video. I already own the Sony FE 135/1.8 GM but what peaks my curiosity for this is that has its own IS that the Sony does not. Do wish you had spent some time on this feature and how it performs with IS enabled. I used to own the EF 135/2L and without IS I'm wondering if I should just consider that again and adapt it since its much lower price. It was a great lens that I wish I didn't sell when I left Canon for Sony but now that I'm shooting both its important to understand for me if the RF 135/1.8L IS is best in class or the others are its equal.

Thank you so much for the good thoughts about my video. I'm going to go back and do a comparison when I have access to the Sony lens, which I didn't for this video. I've never used the Sony 135 and wished to myself it had more IS but maybe because I can shoot it wide open in low light and the 5 stops is good enough. I'm never completely sold on big IS numbers like 8 stops combining the two IS systems. There's also a certain amount of just plain magnification at longer lengths that's not counteracted easily by IS. But it's a compelling product. I still have difficulty getting used to the relative sizes of canon glass (aside from the 135) after years of smaller GM products.

Nice video! I can't wait to get my hands on this lens! The EF version had a ginormous hood as well for some reason. This RF version uses the same hood as the 600mm f/11 lens, almost like they didn't want to put too much thought into it. Oh, well.

I was looking so flipping forward to getting this lens. I'd been on the waiting list since December 8th but CANON CANCELED MY ORDER for no reason. I'm thinking they're having trouble with the lens or getting them out. I tried to get an answer from Canon as to what happened but it sounds like a lot of disorganization around this lens. I'm not going to order another because 1. I think there's something going wrong or they wouldn't be having issues and 2. I'd be bumped to the back of the queue.
