Though Niccolo Paganini's most famous works were intended for public performance, he wrote several works for his own diversion, mostly for violin and guitar. Paganini's ''Cantabile'' was one of the few and possibly the only one of these to be written for violin and piano. It is more approachable to the player than much of his other output, with charming melodies that recall the cavatinas of opera composers of his time, like Bellini and Donizetti.
