The first cantiga listed here, Cantiga 7 is my favorite, it always gives me chills! And the Clemencic Consort is my favorite performance of the cantigas! So beautiful. I especially love to listen to them at this time of year.

Having considered misleadingly the Medieval Age a "dark age" was a traditional mistake, and this music is a good evidence of one of its many bright lights.

At roughly 17:30, string player takes a solo (rebec?-- somebody school me--) that sounds completely modern. It seems this group takes liberties with the music that few ancient music ensembles do. I like it.

What sounds "modern" to you? It's certainly aggressive playing, and I'm guessing is likely improvised, but is it documented anywhere that accomplished performers in 13th century Iberia never played that way? I don't claim to be an expert in early music, which is why I ask.

@@CorrieBergeron I'm no expert either. But I've read some commentaries about the modern sound of contemporary musicians making medieval music more than a museum piece for contemporary listeners. Some people don't like that. They want it "authentic" all the way. I suppose that for them, that means restrained. But a medievalist friend of mine has told me how we do know things about the way music was played, we have notation, we have descriptions in medieval literature-- it's likely that instruments were played with more or less abandon as the social situation called for. Players at kermesses, baptisms-- tarantella players at spider-bite exorcisms-- they must have burned the strings off. I suppose players at court dances did the same.

Hello. You have an interesting channel. And I am interested in the possibility to post a link to my video in your "Community" section. I am a composer specializing in and around the piano. Recently I started publishing my works on KZitem (music plus dynamic sketching), so I am looking for friends and partners. Is it possible to post a link in the Community (or in the end card)? Without a doubt, I'm willing to pay for posting and would like to know what would be your price. I am also interested in a video with an overview of my music, if this format suits you. Thanks. Best regards, Mikhail.
