Hey man love your videos and thank you for making them. They really help me review when I am not working on the weekends but want to improve my knowledge. If you don't mind me asking is there a specific book you recommend for civil Fe engineers to study.

First, I would like to thank you for your great efforts, however I would like to see more critical cases like higher walls more than 30 feet. Many thanks again 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Hi, why didn't you use W_L and W_soil in calculating the resisting moment?
@jackyeh7512

You might want to check if additional seismic load from the retained soil needs to be considered since the wall is quite high, at least in California.

yes very good point! I often have seismic load to account for up here in OR as well!

Hi, i would like to ask if seismic loads should be considered only for stability or also structural design? thank you

Hello. Thanks for great video. Unrelated question for you about vertical cold joints. If I pour concrete retaining wall one section at a time leaving rebar sticking out to tie into the next section and keying the new wall into the old one, is it likely to leak and stop me from installing wall covering on top of the cold joint successfully? Is there a method to do this successfully? I appreciate any advice.

you'll definitely need to do extra detailing at the cold joists to ensure a water tight structure. there are products that can be cast into the joint and many other products that are for this exact situation.

Hey Kestava, any recommendations how to design a cantilevered retaining wall that retains water?
@Kestava_Engineering
Жыл бұрын
youll need to design for the additional hydrostatic pressure and you should look into additional ACI requirements for concrete structures in continuous contact with water. the concrete mix and detailing changes I believe off the top of my head.

At 3:46 why is equivalent fluid pressure 30psf?

I think he should calculate the surcharge by multiplying 2' by 110 not 30!

Can you explain, please, why you didn't take into account passive and active coefficients in the calculation of active and passive soil pressure? Cause in NBCC I see the formulas for finding this coefficient. Thank you, for your time and work)
@Kestava_Engineering
Жыл бұрын
Hi Just V - we were given the "equivalent fluid pressure" for our design this pressure already accounts for the active and passive coefficients. in the professional field it is common that the geotechnical engineer will provide these pressures in their geotechnical report so the structural engineer doesn't have to go through the process of calculating them.

@@Kestava_Engineering Thank you for your reply! I asked this, cause in my practice, we really rarely have a geotechnical report. We design residential buildings and must calculate coefficients.
