I’ve since converted it to tubeless with Panaracer GravelKing SK tires (same 50mm width) and now it’s even more comfortable and nimble. 10/10 in my book.

@@2hug mostly use it in Tour omw to work as it’s all uphill, eco back home and usually try to stick as close to 18-20mph as possible, which is a breeze actually, with eco you get a nice healthy workout but at much higher speed than you’d achieve without. Usually charge once a week and get around 50mi out of it with my mix of modes. On eco you can definitely expect to get around 60 if you put a good amount of energy into pedaling and try to keep your speed up. I definitely like a sporty and fast riding style and this bike is perfect for it.

Thanks for a great reviews best on the internet and on EBR !!! We are the same size and I am glad I got to see you on the size "medium" !!! Look at the geometry spec. The bike is 650b/27.5er wheels on the size "small" ( st= 492mm/19.37" tt= 569mm/22.4") really a medium) because that size small (except for the chain and seat stay length because of being designed around the smaller wheel), geometry spec and size recommendations are for a size medium frame in almost every other leading bicycle manufacturers for years..... This makes it difficult for us at about 5'9"/175.25cm tall ... real mediums (who on this bike is right in the middle of the "small" size recommendations for this bike) to get the best ride on this bike with the smaller 650b wheels. If they designed the bikes correctly we could have had a size medium designed around 700/29 wheels but you could still fit 650b/275era on it even wider than 50mm for really extreme gravel, etc. Just a really dumb design spec in jolly green giant land maybe. 🙄🙄🙄

I actually am trying to upgrade the carbon fork as the review mentioned with a Lauf Grit SL fork. The problem is that the Lauf fork has a 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 tapered tube size and the Grail-On has a 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 head tube. I've contacted Lauf and there is no adapter you can use. So, no go with the Lauf Grit SL fork - which would have been the bomb had it fit. But I believe another fork with the lower 1 1/2 size should work. I just wanted to the Lauf fork to fit but oh well...

I have the 2XL eTap version of the Grail:On and have now done maybe 1,500km on it. I agree with the conclusions of the review but would add a few points: The eTap gear changing is very good but the SRAM Force brakes are bad and judder and vibrate badly when used in anger and give no confidence whatsoever. This is a SRAM problem, not a Canyon problem but it's difficult to solve because you would need an entirely new drivetrain. The poor brakes makes the bike much less useable off road for me. The rubber weather cover for the charge point is appalling - it's impossible to get it to reseal once you have peeled it open to charge the battery. The paint on my frame was poor and flaked off when I applied some paint protection film. The Purion over-reads speed by 5% or so, which means that assistance drops off at about 26.5mph, not the quoted 28mph. Contrary to the review I like the position of the Purion controller - it's easy to change modes with your left thumb without taking your hand off the bars. You can easily fit a computer mount to the underside of the Hover Bar which places your Garmin/ Wahoo/ Hammerhead computer in the perfect central position. Overall, a mild recommendation from me but the brakes on the eTap version are a major drawback.

@garysmith7814
3 жыл бұрын
@@turb0diesel I understand. Most riders will be Ok with the 28mph US version but would be frustrated if limited to the lower 20mph or even 15mph limits in some countries. I bought my Grail:On to be able to ride with (and keep up with!) my son who is a fast cat 3 level road roadie and the Grail:On works perfectly for this - just using Eco mode (the lowest level of assist) I can keep up with him virtually everywhere - the only exception being where he is maxed out on the flat and can hold a steady 30mph for a few minutes where the Canyon caps me at 28mph. This isn't an issue - as soon as he hits one of the many climbs around here, I recover any lost ground using only the lower levels of assist. If you live in a country subject to the lower limit (or somewhere fast and flat) you will probably need to resort to one of the commercial hacks to remove the speed limiter. I was looking at the Creo as well and I'm pleased I went for the Canyon. Two reasons: (1) it's works well on the road but is more gravel-capable than the Creo; and (2) I think the Bosch motor system is better than the Shimano version used in the Creo (I have the Shimano EP8 motor in a YT Decoy 29 and it's a bit whiny and the software isn't as well integrated in my opinion).

@@garysmith7814 I really appreciate the info Gary. I am a former competitive cyclist and stopped riding about 10yrs ago due to a chronic illness. I have gotten to place where I know I will never be able to be that guy again, but I would like to ride again, and I am thinking this kind of bike would allow me to ride the avg speed I used to, with my realistic fitness limitations (which is not bad, its just a lot lower than the old me). I used to train with power, and am a technical guy so I know what results in what and all the variables well, a little bit goes a long way until you start talking about higher speeds. And I love the idea of a gravel bike for the do-it-all nature, so yeah I am leaning towards the Grail:On for all the reasons you listed. I think its a better value overall. But its also slighter further towards e-bike on the continuum and the Creo more to regular bike... at least that is my impression based on watching videos like this. No test rides or personal experience. Sometimes less is more, and the Creo is less... if only it cost less too I would go with the Creo, but since they are roughly the same price point, The more powerful motor, more battery capacity, the wider tire clearance, etc. Has me thinking real hard about the Grail. I'm in the US so the 28mph limit is fine for what I would use it for.

Yeah, I'm mixed on the brakes. The smaller 160mm rotors are less likely to get bent and won't get as dirty. The ICE-Tech materials and design improves cooling efficiency, but you still lose some mechanical advantage to a 180mm rotor. I found that it was possible to lock the brakes and skid, but I was on dusty pavement and some hard packed dirt. For me, the brakes seemed to offer enough stopping power, but I weigh 135lbs (61kg).

Most premium electric bikes with mid-drive motors forego throttles: Bosch, Brose, Shimano, Yamaha. Technically, a Class 3 product with a throttle becomes unclassified due to European guidance and lobbying in North America. You can still find products like this, with throttle to 20mph and pedal assist up to 28mph, but it blurs the line.
