Hi Madhavan, great video! Was really informative. I had a quick question regarding applications: Would Indian students/International students come under the "Non-traditional: Mature" category in the application form? Please advise if there is any other specific category under which they would fall. (Essentially students who haven't visited Canada before and have lived, worked and studied back in their home country all their lives).

Hi Aditya, Many thanks for Your comment. Glad that You people find My video useful. So basically, in My opinion, it totally depends on What it is that You are doing back home in India currently. If You check out the Wikipedia page on "Traditional and Non-Traditional" students, they have given 6 parameters which distinguish a traditional student from a non-traditional student. You can read more about it right here : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nontraditional_student . That being said, when I was reading about Traditional and Non-Traditional students, I found this one sentence on Wikipedia which says that : "The nontraditional student designation has to a lesser extent been used to refer to socially or educationally disadvantaged students". In addition to that, it also depends on whether You are financially dependent or independent in India. Best, Madhav

Hi Rozaldeep, Appreciate Your comment. Even though Your last question is very "Generic", I'll still try My best to answer both of the questions for You. Pl find My reply down below : 1.About jobs for girls in Nova Scotia : In My opinion, the answer to this question totally depends on What Your "Strengths" and "Capabilities" are. We all are born with certain gifts ( things that We are good at naturally ). The key is to recognise those talents and align Your career path with them. As a man, I can only talk about the various fields that I see women working & excelling in. For Example : I've seen Indian women with great communication skills working part-time as Receptionists at Hotels. Similarly, if You've got a flair for writing, You could apply for a job at Caper Times here at CBU. Now, if I talk about Walmart, I see women doing very well in the Deli department, as Customer Service Representatives, as Sales-Floor associates, and even in the Fulfilment department ( which is a very tough job because You have to deal with heavy items and manage heavy skids ). I also see "Gender Equality" in its truest form here in Canada. India is also getting there, but We need to do more. Most of My managers at Walmart are women and they are all doing a fabulous job. I see women driving big SUVs here like Ford F-150s, F-350s, Jeeps, Ram 1500s and 3500s ( which I seldom saw in India ). In My opinion, at the end, it all comes down to doing What You Love, and, Loving What You do. As beautifully put by Mark Twain - "Find a job that You enjoy doing, and You'll never have to work a day in Your life". 2. About Our schedule in Supply Chain Management : This is something that is partly in Your control. You are the one Who is going to decide "What to Study", "When to Study" and "How many courses to Study" in a given semester. Now, even though You are the one Who is going to decide the type of Subject Split that You want to achieve here, this is all subject to "Course Availability" & "Seat Availability" for Your given semester. The way this works is - For each course, there are multiple sections, and each section has a different timing & seat availability. Regarding the same, here at CBU, We have a separate portal dedicated to the "Academic Calendar" ( which You can visit right Here : calendar.cbu.ca ). Once You are on that portal, You just have to enter the "Course Code" and click on the "Calendar Icon". Thereafter, You'll be able to view the information w.r.t the "Seat Availability". Now, the sooner You register for the courses ( prior to the date of commencement of Your intake ), the better Your chances are for securing a seat for a given course. Now, as far as My experience of registering for courses ( when I was back home in India ) is concerned, the seats tend to fill-up really fast. So kindly register as soon as possible. Moreover, the students here structure their Schedule in a way that it blends in comfortably with their part-time work schedule. Hope that was helpful. Best, Madhav.

I’m going to attend nscc on Sep/20 and I can’t find reliable information concerning housing. I’ve bokmarked a few home rental websites, however mostly doesn’t appear to be updated. Concerning home rental, what do you recommend?
@madhavancbu5833

Hi Bruno, Glad that You found My video to be helpful. Pl find My reply down below : 1. How I had planned My Housing & Accommodation : So basically, when I was in India, I had already applied for the "On-Campus" Housing that We have here at CBU. I'm not sure about NSCC though. Regarding the same, I had a clear roadmap of "My date of arrival" in Sydney and the "Official Move-In date" of the residence here. Now, I arrived around a week before My "Official Move-In date" and for these 7 to 8 days, I stayed at an AirBnB ( which I had already booked when I was in India ). However, suppose I had not applied for the "On-Campus" Housing here at CBU, then in that situation, I would have dedicated these 7 to 8 days to evaluating different listings, negotiating with Home Owners, and finalising the apartment lease ( as mentioned in the 2nd point ). 2. How You can find accommodation here : There is an Online listing aggregator portal called "Kijiji" which has tons of Real Estate listings. You can start browsing through the various listings over there to get an idea of What the rentals in different parts of Sydney & Outskirts are like. There are also some very good listings on the "Off-Campus Accommodations" section of the CBU website right Here : www.cbu.ca/current-students/accommodations/off-campus-accommodations/ . Hope that helped. Best, Madhav.

I have applied for SCM @ CBU, I would like to how long university would take to respond to the application. Secondly, what’s the actual course duration. I know this is a two year course, but can I complete all the courses under two years ?
@madhavancbu5833
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sheetu, Hope You're doing well. Appreciate Your comment. Please find My reply down below : 1. About the Response time from the University : So basically, there is no way for Me to comment on this, as this is something that is totally dependent on the volume of applications that CBU's Enrolment Services might be getting at this point in time in accordance with their actual projected requirements for the successive intakes. You also have to take into account the Covid-19 factor. 2. About the Course Duration : The SCM course here at CBU is a two year course. However, how soon You finish the course, is totally dependent on You. Different students here have different plans with regards to their understanding of the Immigration system here in Canada. Some students finish the course earlier, while the others complete it in two years. Hope that Helped. Best, Madhav.

Madhavan Canada thank you for responding. I am now planning for May 2021 intake. People have given different opinions on May intake, with some saying it has too many disadvantages in terms of part time employment and summer vacation. I would like to know your view point on it, if May intake is good academic wise as I am not bothered about part time opportunities. Also if I enrol in May 2021 intake, ideally when can I expect to complete the course

Hi there, Appreciate Your response. Kindly find My reply down below : 1. Whether May Intake is good Academics wise : Yes, definitely. However, it is very fast-paced. Because You have to cover 4 courses in a matter of less than 2 months, You'll find Yourself to be very busy studying for the upcoming exams, completing assignments, preparing for presentations etc. Personally, I enjoyed this intake. 2. About the expected duration of completing the course : This totally depends on How You structure Your course. I started My course here in May 2019, and will be completing all of the courses by the end of 2020. However, some students here will be completing their courses by April 2021. This totally depends on the kind of split that You want to achieve here. Best, Madhav.

@madhavancbu5833
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Arun, Hope You're doing well. In My opinion, it is always a good idea to have Your official transcripts ( issued by Your university ) with You at all times. After You graduate, most state universities in India now have put in place a mechanism wherein they also issue You a transcript along with Your Degree Certificate and Mark-Sheets of each year. You just have to request the university to issue it for You separately. As far as CBU is concerned, I don't think they'll need a transcript from Your university. However, I suggest that You contact our Enrolment Services here and cross-check this with them. I also recommend You to check out W.E.S ( World Education Services ). They have something known as "Credential Evaluation" ( where they check Your degree equivalency with the U.S and Canadian education system ). You can read more about it right here : www.wes.org/advisor-blog/indian-degree-questions-answered/ Best, Madhav.

@madhavancbu5833

Hi Gaurav, Thats a very good question indeed. This is something that even I was curious about, and regarding the same, I did My research on the same a long time ago. I want to discuss the following points with You : 1. Understanding Who can grant an MBA and a PGDM : In India, only universities have the power to grant MBAs. However, other "Autonomous Institutions" ( which are not universities ) cannot offer MBAs. Therefore, these "Autonomous Institutions" offer their 2 Year Management Courses as a "Post Graduate Diploma in Management". 2. Whether or not a Post Graduate Diploma is equivalent to an MBA : So basically, in India, the only condition for a Post Graduate Diploma in Management to be equivalent to an MBA is that - It should be a 2 Year course. A 2 year Post Graduate Diploma will be considered equivalent to an MBA in India, however, a 1 year Post Graduate Diploma will not be considered equivalent to an MBA. Therefore, make sure that Your Post Graduate Diploma course is of 2 years. 3. The case of IIMs : 99% of the Indians that I meet, are not aware of the fact that even IIMs offered PGDMs before year 2017. Now, Why would a premier institution like IIM offer a PGDM and not an MBA ? - Because, IIM has always been an "Autonomous Institution". They were not a university. However, in the year 2017, a bill was passed in Our Parliament called the "Indian Institutes of Management Bill, 2017" which gave special powers to IIMs wherein they could now award MBAs instead of PGDMs. 4. Why PGDMs became so popular in India : India, in the past few decades, has witnessed a massive proliferation in the number of Management institutions to cater to the demand of the increasing number of graduates every year. Now, because, an institution like IIM was offering a PGDM and because the curriculum of a PGDM is not decided by the UGC ( Universities Grants Commission ), it gave the institutions a lot of flexibility to decide what to include in their curriculum. It was they Who solely decided their curriculum. 5. Canadian MBA vs Post Baccalaureate Diploma : Here in My personal experience, a Post Baccalaureate Diploma is something which is very "industry specific" and very "targeted". Whatever You study here in Your Post Baccalaureate Diploma ( say in Supply Chain Management ) is intended to prepare You for an industrial role. Hope that helped. Best, Madhav.

Hi Gagan, Glad to hear that You chose CBU to pursue Your Post Graduate course in Supply Chain Management. Kindly find the response to Your queries down below : 1. About the Two Year Course Fees : So basically, in Supply Chain Management, We've got a total of 12 Courses. Out of these 12 Courses, 11 are Your academic subjects. The 12th and the last one is Your internship. Now, for 1 Academic Course here at CBU, You'll have to pay a total of CAD 1872.87 which is inclusive of Your Tuition Fee ( $1,006 ), Student Union Fee ( $25.87 ), Campus Renewal Fee ( $21 ), Information Technology Fee ( $16 ) and International Differential Fee ( $804 ). So if You've got a total of 4 courses in Your 1st Semester, Your total Fee for the 1st Semester would be CAD 7491.48 . Also, as far as I know, if We opt to take the assistance of CBU's placement cell for Our internship, We have to pay them around CAD 3745.74 ( which is the Fee of 2 of Your courses ). 2. About PNP : So basically, there are various offshoots of the NSNP ( which people refer to as PNP ). The two most relevant to Us are the "Nova Scotia Demand" and "Nova Scotia Experience". Now, for both of these, it is critical that after graduating, One obtains a job that falls under "NOC o", "NOC A" and "NOC B". NOC here refers to the "National Occupational Classification". A few of the students that I know ( who have completed their studies ) are contemplating the various Pros and Cons of applying via PNP or AIPP. I recommend that You take a look at the AIPP too. AIPP is for all of the Atlantic Provinces whereas NSNP is just for Nova Scotia. Best, Madhav.

Hello Rajeev Ji, I just came back to India from Canada, and as per My experience, Nova Scotia has done a stellar job in curbing Covid-19. Please find My reply to Your queries down below : 1. About the SCM course for May 2021 : I’ve mentioned in one of My comments about the Spring intake. Its a very fast-paced intake ( as the duration of the intake is shorter ). However, if Your son enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, then it’ll keep Him busy. 2. About Part-Time Jobs : Hiring of students for Part-Time positions is a continuous process here in Sydney ( as retail outlets always have students leaving & going to other provinces or for that matter bigger cities ). Call-Centres do a lot of hiring here. Retail hirings are done in phases, but, please do keep applying. Best, Madhav.

Kunal, First of all, many thanks for Your comment. As You already might be aware, the Government of Canada announced a 2 Year extension to the AIPP in March 2019 wherein the changes came into effect from the beginning of May 2019. In My opinion, it would be too premature to predict what would happen in 2021. At CBU, We periodically have information sessions arranged by Canadian Immigration wherein a lot of students get to clarify their doubts. Considering the current in-flux of students here in Canada and at CBU, I reckon that We might get to see another extension. One can only hope for the best. Thanks, Madhav.

Electives : These are "Supply Chain", "Global Sourcing", "MIS", "Stats", "Operations", "Entrepreneurship", "Organisational Behaviour" and "HR". I also want to mention here that a lot of big organisations visit CBU quite frequently to select students for internships. Hi there, Many congratulations on getting the offer letter from CBU ! Please find My reply to each of Your queries down below : 1. About May Intake vs September Intake : According to My personal experience, the May intake is extremely fast paced. For Me, that was a good thing, because I was always occupied with My studies and I like working in environments that are fast paced. On the contrary, September intake was very much laid-back and a lot of the students did become complacent as far as their studies are concerned ( because they were also working ). 2. About the Business Analytics Program : It is a good program. Has a lot of relevance to the present day scenario wherein We are looking at "Automation", "Artificial Intelligence" etc. 3. About CBU vs other Colleges : You should definitely consider joining CBU. There are a lot of advantages of studying here ( as compared to the various colleges in Ontario, British Columbia etc ). 4. About Opportunities and Exposure : As an educational institution, this university provides an environment that is conducive to Your growth in all spheres of Your life. Now, it totally depends on "How hard You work here". If Your grades are good, and You have a good C.V, then Your chances of getting hired on campus increase manifold. From the field of Supply Chain, We do have companies that visit CBU each semester to recruit students for their internships. 5. About Part-Time Job in May : I would not recommend You to start working in Your first semester here ( I'm talking about the May intake ). Your first and foremost priority should be Your studies. Once You are done with Your first semester here and You've got the understanding of the education system here at CBU, then You should go ahead and apply for jobs. In My opinion, the month of July is ideal for Job Hunting here, as a lot of retail outlets recruit students during this time. Best, Madhav.

Hi Mritunjoy, Many thanks for Your appreciation. Please find My answer to both of Your questions down below : 1. About Jobs in SCM in Nova Scotia : So Mritunjoy, there are a lot of jobs in Supply Chain Management here in Atlantic Canada. If I solely talk about Nova Scotia, We've got a lot of logistics related jobs in the city of Halifax ( Port of Halifax is a major revenue generator ). In addition to Nova Scotia, You also have a lot of Supply Chain related jobs in the province of New Brunswick. 2. About the Post Graduate Work Permit : So basically, the final decision with regards to the "tenure" of Your work permit is at the sole discretion of CIC. However, going by the general norm, if You are pursuing a 2 Year course here in Canada from a Designated Learning Institution, then You are supposed to get a 3 year work permit post completion of Your studies ( which is applicable to SCM students here at CBU ). Also, it takes around 3 months for the C.I.C to process Your application. Best, Madhav

As far as I'm aware, in Business Management, You've got a little more flexibility with regards to the electives that You choose ( depending on What Your interest field is ). This is something that We don't have in Supply Chain wherein We have a pre-defined and targeted course curriculum. Moreover, in Business Management, You'll have a total of 9 Core Subjects and 2 Electives. Hi Shibaji, Hope You're doing well. Glad to know that You plan to study Supply Chain Management here at CBU. Kindly find My reply to Your queries down below : 1. The remaining 6 credits are secured by either undertaking a Co-Op Internship or a Capstone project. If for some reason, You can't find secure an internship here in Canada, You always have the option of going for the Capstone project. 2. About the Co-Op Internship : As far as the field of Supply Chain is concerned, We do have some very renowned organisations that periodically visit the CBU campus to recruit students. Now, whether or not You'll be able to secure an internship for Yourself here at CBU totally depends on Your cumulative grades and Your overall consistency in all of the preceding semesters. You have to meet a certain "threshold" of percentage ( in-order to be eligible for placements ). We also have a student placement officer Who will guide You should You require any guidance or assistance. Finally, I want to mention here that there are a lot of opportunities in the field of Supply Chain here in Atlantic Canada. If You have the drive to succeed, then sky is the limit for You. Hope that helped. Best, Madhav.

hi kunal, i find your video very informative. i just want to ask how people managed for such long time without part time. i know GIS is an option but then also. is it seriously a big issue to get a part time. i am little worried because i have applied for loan and i have to work for it.
@madhavancbu5833
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shizan, Thanks for Your appreciation. Please find My response to Your questions down below : 1. About GIC and managing without a Part Time Job : So basically, the G.I.C of $670 that is credited to our account every month is only enough for meeting our basic requirements ( like food, rent and travel expenses ). I know students who live on a shoestring budget and their monthly expenses are well under the credited G.I.C amount. However, if You like to live well, then $670 every month is very less. Moreover, students Who have to pay their fees on their own ( without any support from their families back home in India ) have no option but to find a part-time job. 2. About finding Part-Time Jobs : Nearly all of the big retail outlets here in Sydney recruit a lot of part-time students during the summers. So in My opinion, that is the best time to land up with a part-time job. During the winters, because of the lower amount of footfalls in the store and lesser turnover, these retail outlets downsize their workforce or allocate lesser number of weekly hours to them. Also, at the end of the day, it also depends on How well You network here. It also depends on where You are applying. For Example : I know students working here in Call-Centres who got a job within the first couple of weeks of arriving here in Sydney. There is a Call-Centre here called "Sydney Call Centre" that recruits a lot of students. If You are okay with working at Call-Centres and are fine with handling all the cranky customers throughout the day, then do consider applying. Also, You need a good I.E.L.T.S score in speaking to land up with a job at Sydney Call Centre. Hope that helped You. Best, Madhav.

@madhavancbu5833

Hi Sarita, Thanks for Your comment. Please find My reply down below : -> About the Cost of Living in Sydney : 5 important parameters having a major influence on Your cost of living would be - Your monthly room rental, Your monthly grocery expenses, Your monthly transportation costs, Your monthly phone bill and other miscellaneous expenses. If I talk about the monthly room rental in Sydney, if You rent a private room in a house where other students are living, You'll pay approximately $400 per month. If there are two students sharing a room, then the cost becomes half and they pay $200 each. The closer You go to downtown Sydney, the higher Your rentals will go. For Your monthly grocery expenses, You'd end up spending anything between $100 to $150 per month. For the monthly transportation costs, if You take the bus pass from CBU ( which entitles You to travel unlimited in the CBRM ), You are looking at $60 per month. For the cellular plan, the cheapest ones are around $15 per month, while the other ones where You also get a Tab along with more data and minutes are around $60 per month. In addition to the this, I have also included other miscellaneous expenses. These could be anything ranging from the money that You spend on Your winter boots here, the clothes that You buy here, the cab fares that You pay here, the money that You spend here should You prefer to eat outside etc. Typically, students share the room so they pay $200 per head, around $100 for groceries, $25 for the phone and $60 for the buss pass. In this case, their cost of living drops down to $385 per month. Even if I take "Higher Limits" for each of the parameters i.e - If I take $400 for the room, $150 for groceries, $60 for the phone and $60 for the bus pass My total cost of living per month would be $670. Please note that here I have taken the "Higher Limits" for each of the parameters. Moreover, the G.I.C of $670 that is credited to Our Account is only sufficient enough for us to cover the expenses for our basic needs...

Namaste Vinod Ji, The Indian Air Force is held in very high regards across the world. As You’ll be retiring next year, please don’t think of Your age as a barrier to Your endeavour of pursuing Higher Education / increasing Your qualifications. I’ve seen people in their sixties here ( who come to Canada to do their Masters / PHDs etc ). There is no age limit to learning. Moreover, getting to Canada is getting more and more competitive now with each passing day. The first and foremost step is to apply for an Offer Letter here at CBU. The Enrolment Services here at CBU will thereafter process Your application and let You know of their decision with regards to Your application. I wish You the very best of luck. Best, Madhav

Hi there, Hope You're doing well. Its great to know that You chose CBU to pursue Your Post-Graduate studies in Business Analytics. Kindly find My reply to Your questions down below : 1. About the course in Business Analytics : I know a few people Who are studying this course here at CBU presently. I've only heard positive reviews of this course, and would personally recommend this course to You because of its relevance to Logistics and Supply Chain ( which I discuss in the second point ). Also, there are 2 programming languages that are critical to this field. The first programming language is called "R" and the second one is "Python". 2. About the Course Opportunity & Job Prospects : The very fact that there is no dearth of jobs in Business Analytics, makes it an extremely popular choice amongst students here in Canada. You mentioned that You've already done Your Bachelors in Logistics Management from India, and in accordance with the same, enhancing Your understanding of Logistics by pursuing a course in Business Analytics seems to be the right thing to do. I say this, because, there is a tremendous overlap of Logistics and Supply Chain with Data Analytics. Moreover, as more and more organisations focus on "Automation" and "Artificial Intelligence" to improve the efficiency of their day-to-day operations, Your understanding of Data Analytics will be crucial in making strategies ( which You formulate by observing the past trends ) and which in-turn impact the long term profitability of Your organisation. Best, Madhav.

Hi there, I would describe Sydney as a very small and quiet town. The population is less ( around 30,000 ), the air is very clean and You get all of the basic amenities here that one would want. It becomes very picturesque during the Fall with all of the Fall colours on display. Also, the businesses here don't stay open till very late. If I talk about the location of Cape Breton University, it is more or less equidistant from Glace Bay ( 12 Kms from CBU ) and New Waterford ( 11.5 Kms ). The Dorchester Street bus stop in Sydney would be around 10 Kms from CBU. They also have a very efficient transit system here at CBU. Because of the huge in-flux of international students at CBU, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality has scaled up their operations by increasing the frequency of buses connecting CBU to Sydney, New Waterford and Glace Bay. The buses always run on time. I have never had a single instance of them running late. Actually, it is very difficult to compare Sydney to any particular town or city in India. Everything here is very different from India. The architecture and planning of the residential and commercial buildings, malls and retail outlets is very different. I can, however, see this place resemble the town of "Manipal" in India ( in a lot of aspects ).

Hi Shanky, Many thanks for Your appreciation. Unfortunately, I can't really comment on this situation as I'm not aware of the various peculiarities of Canadian Immigration Law. Hi Himanshu, I was thankfully able to find the courses on a PDF file uploaded on the CBU website, but to do so, You just have to Google it in a different manner. There is something known as a "Site Operator" that I use to dig deep in a specific website. For Example, I typed the following in Google search bar - "site:cbu.ca post baccalaureate diploma in business management courses". Using the Site Operator, You are restricting Google search to just 1 specific website. So, if I want to search for the keyword "Supply Chain Management" in the CBU website, I would type the following in the search bar : "site:cbu.ca supply chain management". Hope You are getting My point. Here is the link to that PDF File : www.cbu.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/program-worksheet-pb-bus-management-diploma.pdf Best, Madhav.

Hi Shubham, Thanks for Your comment. So basically, in order for Me to answer Your above question, I'll have to point out that whatever You study here in Your initial semesters, will have some kind of a utility in the succeeding semester. For Example : In My 1st semester here at CBU, I studied the core course of Supply Chain Management. It was in the very 1st semester that We were taught about "Economic Order Quantity", "Optimal Lot Size", "Cycle Inventory", "Optimal Order Frequency", "Holding Cost" etc. Now, in the very next semester, I had a course called "Procurement & Supply Management" wherein We solved numerical problems for each of the above topics. Moreover, I get to meet a lot of engineers here, and the Maths that We studied in India was of a totally different level. We used to have things like "Triple Integrals", "Differential Equations", "Laplace Transform", "Fourier Transform" etc. However, here, in Supply Chain Management, You'll have various formulae for calculating different things, and You'll have to know where to apply what in order to arrive at the solution.
