Is this not just a coinciding factor of paranoid schizophrenia? Does this go hand in hand?

Capgras can occur in people with schizophrenia, but often it occurs due to other causes (e.g., traumatic brain injury, stroke). And paranoid delusions in schizophrenia don't typically look like the delusions of Capgras patients. So, they can go together, but I would say not often enough to say they go hand in hand.

Wow that sounds frightening. Is it possible to use gene therapy or other techniques to help Capgras patient reassociate image w emotions?

We haven't made any real progress in finding treatments for Capgras syndrome, in part because of how rare it is. Capgras syndrome affects such a small number of people that there aren't a lot of cases to study to gather information that would drive potential treatments. And, it's difficult to get a lot of funding to investigate treatments for a disorder that only affects such a small percentage of people. So, unfortunately, these very rare conditions are much more difficult to understand and treat.
