Thank you so much. I’ve been a crusty paramedic for a while now and all the new grads were talking about why ETCO2 should be the deciding factor on whether to call a code or not. They couldn’t really explain to me why though. 2 words, you said it, “Cardiac Output” makes since now. Thanks again.

While compressing the ETCO2 should be above 10 if it goes below 10 switch compressors!

Recently had a post cardiac arrest that began spontaneous breathing at 26 bpm after intubation and on the ventilator. EtCO2 at 20 and little to no effect with decreasing TV and rate. Dr. Wanted etCO2 readings at least 30. PaCO2 was 19. Was paralyzing the only option here? Paralyzing with a rate of 12 TV 600 only brought etCO2 to 22. Patient clearly to me was not perfusing. EKG STEMI.
