Very nice. The narrator explained it very clearly. I only hope that they could do a step-by-step demo for each move such as the last move introduced in this video.

Overlooked and underrated MA. Because of the odd angles and the constant movement it's hard to defend or hit a Capoeira practitioner. As long as they don't let themselves get caught and tied up. Or taken to the ground. I'd say Capoeira is one of the most effective. So VITAL to have rhythm in the practice. Some watching this mind find it annoying but it's there for a good reason. Something that's missing from all other MA. Can't evade and strike without rhythm. :) Boxers have front back and side to side movement. Footwork. Makes it so effective in full contact. Capoeira moves pretty much in a sphere..360 degrees. I'd like to say it's 2nd to western boxing. What stops it from being on par is that there's no contact when training. So in a real fight....it's hard to gauge distance and now how it feels to make contact. Or know what it feels like to be hit. Know if you can't remain standing and for how long.

What I usually do, is put the kick foot down and then move the foot that whas supporting me behind the other. so you're in one of the base positions of ginga. Or just put you're kick foot immediatly behind the other so you're in the base position. (depends on the kick or ask your mestre. You can see it in this video.

Like many martial arts this one has a history. The awkward moves were originally used that way because the slaves that practiced usually had shackled hands. The West African slaves and the Brazillian slaves were mixed together by the slave owners to keep them culturally confused. It had the opposite effect though as the slaves mixed West African tribal dance with Brazillian and formed Capoeria, which to the slave owers, they thought it was just a game they were playing.

Nothing retarded about it. It's quite effective in many scenarios. However, imho, when we speak high rank comparison between a capoerista and, say, a praying mantis style practitioner, my bet will be on the latter side. Capoeira is very dependent on building a momentum and keeping the rythm, I've never seen a capoeirista deliver a hail of punches or kicks at a lightning speed (show me). Their kicks are slower but carry much mass behind them. Oh higher levels I can see it as a problem.

this is good when mixed with other martial arts such as Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, ETC... don't get me wrong it is hard to learn takes 20 years to become flexible enough to do mid air kicks and punches!

+Linda Ellis If you look at some stuff by group cordao de ouro (the style I do) its contemporary capoeira that is really nice to watch, or if you're up for something more aggressive and fast (personal taste) then Group Capoeira Senzala or Muzenza are pretty good. There are lots of different styles out there, guess you gotta find the right one for you (and hope they have a group in your town)
