Both are good tools and both made in Taiwan most likely both are made in the same factory as well just like all those yeti cups and ozark trails cups. I own the Capri myself. My budget doesnt justify spending more for identical tooling. But to each there own.

This is exactly what I needed to know, thanks! I was torn between these two until I found your video. I've been researching the hell out of "auto-strippers" for Christmas gifting. Reviews vary wildly with every model out there, and you never know which reviewers are legit, shills or competitors. Some on Amazon have said the crimper on this Capri is worthless, the Irwin's is better. Reviewers on HomeDepot say the Capri does a decent job of crimping. Per your demo, there is apparently no difference between the two. I have old K.Y.P. branded self-adjusting strippers (no tension adjust or length guide) which have served me well for many years. KYP holds the patent on this style of stripper. Thanks for showing the BACKS of these models. Capri's own website has lots of images, but they don't show the backside. From your video, I now know that the Capri is definitely the real deal, KYP. The Irwin doesn't have that stamp, but is probably also made by KYP. Most of the identical ones of this design that are made in Taiwan are very likely produced by the same KYP factory (at least, the mechanism and metal components; the various handles and length stoppers may be made elsewhere, though, and the units assembled at yet another location). The Capri has a 10-year warranty vs. Irwin's lifetime. From what I've read, the Irwin is likely to quit working properly well within 10 years, so this selling point seems moot. The consensus on most of these Taiwanese strippers is that they seem to have decent build quality and work well initially, but quit working (get dull, parts break, etc.) prematurely. I would be surprised if any of them last long. The Klein version apparently isn't any better. It also is not made in the USA. You can't count on Klein anymore like the good old days, when everything they made was top-notch. I've also used the non-self-adjust, "automatic" jaw strippers like Ideal, Knipex, etc., and that design has its own unique set of problems. At time of this writing, the Irwin is $27 at Amazon, $20.48 at Lowe's, while the Capri is $14.95 at Amazon and HomeDepot. All things considered, I'm going with the Capri.

The way I would strip the round-bodied house-wiring cable would be with small narrow-pointed surgical scissors, like the kind used for cutting bandages or dental work. I insert the pointed tip of one blade into the cut end of the cable, slipping the tip into a space between the outer jacket and the wires, and then I carefully "nibble-snip" the jacket --- keeping the blade in between the wires so that it doesn't damage them; use a spiral-cutting motion if the wires are twist-bundled, as they often are in multi-conductor cables --- to slit the jacket as far up as necessary. Then with the jacket removed, the wires inside can be stripped with a mechanical tool like you reviewed here, just like the wires inside any other configuration of cable.

Thanks for sharing, that's a excellant way of cutting house wire without damaging the wires.

Irwin Is better than Klein 11061?

I have this and a Klein that is very similar. My Klein stays at home and the the Irwin is in my GO-Bag for travel. My Klein doesn’t have the sharp crimpers that punctured the side of my thumb out at a friends house where I was working. Lots of blood😳. I will grind the danger away or at least dull it. I wish I could post pics. Oh BTW, the wire insulation gauge broke off in my tool bag. Klein gauge= metal. Irwin gauge=plastic. I don’t use the gauge much anyway, but it did fail in my tool bag lol. Just saying.

I will have to check out the Klein. Sorry about the thumb , didn't realize they were that sharp. Yes I could see that the plastic gauge on the Irwin will not last for sure. Thanks Rick for posting.

I presume that the cutting surfaces and or pulling surfaces on both of these have to be replaced at some point in time. I was wondering how that might be done and cost.

Yes I am seeing my Irwin not cut as well. I am not sure where you get the replacement parts. I assume directly from the manufacture.

i just got a set of the irwins, nice set of strippers i wish they were made in the USA i would gladly pay more if they were. but being how many different brands these are rebranded as that might not be economically possible. even though theyre the exact same i like the irwins look better, the blue and yellow look good.

I like the Irwin wire strippers over the Capri and Kseibi wire strippers. I agree I like the blue yellow look as well. They work well on most types of wires.
