Vince McMahon has to be one of the all time great commentators/interviewers in wrestling. His pauses and body language really helped sell things.

well said. i have made the same observation myself. vince's SERIOUS demeanor lent more credibility to wrestling (in the wwwf from whenever he started in the early 70s till the mtv era) than anything else. he acted like a real guy would have acted had wrestling been "real". why would this strait laced, clean cut, well-spoken young man be associated with wrestling if it was FAKE?

The quintessential ''slob'' worrying about McMahon's yellow jacket and deodorant. I remember "Captain Lou" trying to explain the reason George Steele had the green tongue. I was rolling on the floor in laughter. Albano was one of a kind.

Wow . . . this is what they mean when they say that Captain Lou could make ANYONE look good. Even a career jobber like Pete Doherty, the "Dook of Dawchestah" (to use the proper accent). I liked his old line about "if you put his brain in a parakeet, the bird would fly backwards". Lou was like a more comical version of a Gary Hart, who was one of those ruthless heel managers. Lou definitely inspired the late Sir Oliver Humperdink, who was very much like Lou.

The parakeet crack--I remember that too now! 😂 Back in those days, the promoters were often more fun than the wrestlers (Freddie Blassie, The Grand Wizard, Capt. Lou and later, Bobby Heenan were the best!).

I've always wondered what branch of the military Capt. Lou belonged to. This was a riot, back in the day when TV wrestling was at it's most entertaining. I don't remember this "Golden Terror" at all--I must not have lasted long, but I see this same wrestler had a long career under different names. I'm glad I'm just old enough to remember those Saturday nights watching wrestling and then that week's offering on WPIX's "Chiller Theater". Sure wish I could relieve those wonderful evenings at the living room television.

There are lots of older era managers that no one remembers anymore, like Gentleman Saul Weingeroff, Homer O'Dell, Dr. Ken Ramey, Wild Red Berry and Bobby Davis - all great at what they did but totally unknown today. Red Berry was the one that created the template by which all future managers modeled themselves (check out the Grand Wizard), and Weingeroff was a Jew who managed a team of Nazis, the Von Brauner brothers. He even wore a Nazi stormtrooper helmet.
