For then 9 year old me, I thought it was amazing, same with the Hammond Spidey. It made Cap my favorite Marvel character and influenced me to enlist in the army. Seems appropriate and nice that you released this review on Veteran's Day.

Yeah. The rubber costumes for superheroes nowadays make sense. Just far more sense than changing the palette from bold blue to dank blue. "Jam Captain America down their throats!" Almost speaks for itself. Heather did better in Logan's Run, but late 70s shows often felt like characters had so little range that they wouldn't be out of place in high school theatrical plays circa 1583. Yeah, I miss the 70s a lot too. 😢

"Jam Capt. America down their throats"? You could get away with a lot of funky shit in the 70s, which isn't possible today. But I reckon that's a little bit strong. Plus Reb Brown lacks the requisite 70s moustache for such a manoeuvre.

I was 12 and of course I watched both of them. The only thing I remember is the scene where he popped a wheelie and fired off his rockets to jump a broken bridge. I was about 3 or 4 years old and couldnt wait to see when they would put this on TV, there was no schedule so I missed Dr Strange and it never replayed and thus never saw it, but every day I woke up and would turn on the TV waiting to see if they would show this and boom, one day they did 🙂 I recall wishing he would take off the helmet so we could see his comic styled mask and that the shield reminded me of the one of the MEGO TOYS Car, fun times.

Another review that meets the benchmark set by this brilliant channel. I remember watching these on TV and, as a devotee of superhero comics by then, I remember thinking it's Captain America and yet it's not Captain America. Now I know why, he was "Captain Mediocre" harsh but fair. I enjoyed it enough for what it was but it didn't handle adapting the character for TV as well as 'Wonder Woman' or 'The Incredible Hulk' in my opinion.

I have a soft spot for the 70's marvel TVU. They were cheesy, but a lot of fun. Shame more of them didn't get to go to series. Or that Reb's Cap never got to do a crossover with the Hulk, like Thor and Daredevil. and the 70's Cap is citizen kane compared to the 90's one.

The 1990 Captain America film is so low budget that Scott Paulin, the actor who played The Red Skull, had to pull double duty as the doctor in the hospital right after Steve is shot because they couldn't afford to hire any more actors. They couldn't even afford to lease that many Nazi uniforms which is why you only see like three guys dressed as Nazis

Though not the best version of Capt American it did have something it was better second time around that is taking him back to his roots so to speak I did think these attempts were not bad though the style of the first was questionable it comes down to who going to watch these am sure that some marvel fan would have been thrilled a tiny bit to have Cpt American on their televisions back then of course the fact it wasn't top quality or had special effects or more it was still a good attempt at using a clean cut hero from the marvel universe it might not have been as good as the current mcu movies but it inspired the people behind the next version of the mcu movies and it possible that some of the original cast have appeared in those new movies?
How would I go about becoming a doctor of exposition?

You're thinking of "Return of the Incredible Hulk", the first of the three TV movies Bixby and Ferrigno did in the late 80's. "Return of" and "Trial of" acted as back door pilots for Thor and Daredevil while "Death of" was a stand alone.

Actually this was the second live action actor to play Cap. Originally they did a B&W cliff hanger serial in the 40's. I think I hated these movies because the costume was all wrong especially in the first movie. Kids like me who read comics butted head with kids who didn't read comics. Kids who never saw the comic or younger ones thought this was awesome. I was a comics purist and found this blasphemous all though they improved the costume in the second movie.
@jwg5774

The Editors of Timely, as Marvel Comics was known then, absolutely hated Republic's Captain America serial because it used nothing from the comics outside of the costume. The reason for this was because Republic recycled an already existing script that had (allegedly) originally been written for the Fawcett character Mr. Scarlett. One of the writers of the serial admitted in an interview that no one working on the script had any clue who Steve Rogers was, or that Cap was supposed to be a soldier. They were just handed the already existing script and told to change all of Mr. Scarlett's lines to Captain America.

As a kid, things like this and Dr. Strange were just video releases available to rent. I knew I was watching something 'old' (IE 70's) and cheap, but I would still have loved to see more. Same with the Hammond Spiderman movies which I thought were TV movie standalones, and 'Greatest American Hero' - I never knew either of them had full series' until years later! I think in the wake of the Batman '66 series, campy and silly were what we had come to expect from comic book adaptations, and we were just happy to see any live action attempt at comic characters.
