Which, by the way, should be the name of Earth. Face it, earth is just another word for soil. How uncool is it to introduce yourself to an alien species and say you're from a planet called "soil". @@SuddenReal 'Terra' also means 'soil' or 'ground' in Latin. Actually, it MEANS soil or ground in Latin. "Earth" (Which also means "soil" or "ground") came from Old English and Old German (both languages that have roots in Latin) as well as Old Dutch ('Erde') and in all three languages it means the same thing - "soil" or "ground" - more fully it means, 'The ground upon which we stand', while more directly (and how it came to be the name of our home planet), it means "The home of man" (as opposed to the home of the gods,...or "sky") So really, 'Terra' is not the Latin word for "Earth"; it can't be. Latin predates languages that birthed the word "Earth" by a couple of millennia - even though they all refer to the same thing.
@SuddenReal
3 жыл бұрын
@@Cbricklyne A few small thing to mention: you start off by saying that terra means "soil" or "ground" and then say that terra can't be the latin word for earth even though it means the exact same thing. And if words in a different language refer to the same thing, they're the same words, even though they weren't developed at the same time. After all, it's not like everyone sat down and started to compare words and find a suitable translation. Also, the scientific name of cat is felis, which means cat in latin. Every scientific name is in latin and is just a translation of what it is (broadly speaking). Which makes me stay with my point, we're just better off using the scientific term.

Carol Danvers is the opposite of invisible. She is a tank, an unstoppable force, an unapologetically badass. She’s brash, loud, bold, confident. Even as a man myself, it really gave me the strength to stand for myself and own the fact that I have nothing to prove to anyone. Love her ability to get back up. She’s a major risk taker and that means it doesn’t always pan out the way she hopes it will, but she always learns from her mistakes. She overcame every doubt people had about her. People who limited her, who tried to keep her under their control. Both emotionally and physically. Learned to value herself, that her limits are inside of her and not around other people’s expectations. Unapologetic. An example of owning yourself above anything else. This is my fave MCU film and my fave hero .. loads of messages in just 2 hours. Can’t wait for the sequel next year.

All because someone disagrees with you. I saw captain marvel...and I thought the movie was horrible. I also think that if the movie was not sandwhiched between "Infinity War" and "Endgame" AND it wasn't marketed as "being ESSENTIAL to understanding "Endgame" (in other words you need to see this movie to understand the big upcoming blockbuster)...then this movie would have been lucky to make half what it made! Now, I disagree with your view that captain marvel is a good movie...I think it was a horrible movie... but I don't think you are a troll (or anything else) for your opinion. People have differing opinions/views/preferences...but only in the age of social media has it become "evil" to have a different opinion. that was a retcon, that line refers to captain america and howard starks history with shield long before fury was around and back when it was called SSR in 1945. Plus Hulk's incident and creation while trying to recreate the serum that made Cap. While hulk's film takes place after Iron Man his origin takes place long before that and so Shield would have reason to keep an eye on a giant powerhouse like him. Then it was Thor's arrival that showed Shield there really is a lot of danger out there beyond the scope of the earth and that is why they were making weapons from the tesseract Fury says so himself. "Because of him"-fury "me?"-thor "Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously out gunned. "-fury avengers was never meant to protect from aliens or out world forces they only discovered that exists because of thor. Avengers was only meant as an earth peace keeping initiative to do the things shield cannot handle on their own. This is why they started making weapons as a back up to just having the avenger initiative because thor and the prospect of alien life shaked them up to where they might think the avenger initiative might not be enough plus the hidden agenda of Hydra also plays into it. But as far as the space stuff is concerned it was Thor that made that known. Nothing in The Avengers makes any sense anymore with Captain Marvel rewriting history. It was a retcon to make captain marvel relevant while only introducing her sandwiched in between the biggest films of the franchise which only takes place in 90's This is the reason most people disliked it. It took away from the impact Cap and Iron Man and Thor were built up to have. Thankfully they still honored that in endgame but still rewriting the past to make Carol more relevant out of no where is dumb.

Black Widow flew the Quinjet before in MCU movies. Gamora and Nebula piloted space craft too. As did Valkyrie. While electric kettles are not as common in the US as in the UK, people prior to the 1990s used normal kettles on the stove top to heat water for tea. Whether you react to it or not, I'd love knowing that you have had the fun of watching Agents of Shield - all 7 seasons of it! You've probably been told all the usual: "starts out slow", "you gotta kinda get through the 1st half of season 1", etc. In retrospect, the pacing of that 1st block of episodes was necessary to the world-building and revealing bits of the team, while still devoting the bulk of the screentime to Clark Gregg being awesome as Coulson. Fair warning, which again you've likely already gotten, that you'll keep getting hit with new questions and thinking' "WTF is about to happen now?!" BUT, unlike some other shows, AoS doesn't leave those questions unanswered overly long; it's just that, [once that pace picks up], they pretty much are showing you, or hinting at, the NEXT fun problem even as they are solving the last one. It's all so worth it though! So, again, hope you watch, even if you don't react [it's A LOT of episodes, after all]!

It's fine to not instantly associate Kree with villains. They're generaly portrayed as quite antagonistic but, just like humans, how villainous they are is on a spectrum. By the time Guardians of the Galaxy comes around the Kree had entered into a more peaceful chapter and Ronan wasn't happy with that, he became a self exiled separatist hell bent on continuing the abandoned war efforts. He was determined to destroy Xandar with the Power Stone in open defiance of what the governing Kree had decided. During this movie we see Ronan still operating loyally under Kree rule despite his extremist nature.
@johans3164

I think the reason why is cause in this time, the Kree are still proud war mongers, and Ronan loved that. The thing about Captain Marvel, is that the pager had a limited range and Carol is not omnipotent or omniscient and there's 100 billion galaxies in the universe. So with that in mind, it should not come as too implausible that she wasn't available for the first three Avengers movies. But a big problem with the MCU and the MCU fandom, is that many people, actually if I'm being honest probably most people, don't give a shit about what is and isn't plausible, only what is exciting. Another thing that is annoying is that the fandom often forget that Carol has Kree blood in her, has been memory washed, has been changed by the space stone and has been trained by aliens and has been exposed to Alien species, planets, cultures and traditions that are not of planet Earth for years. And yet, they judge her by standards of typically human emotions, wants, expectations, traditions, norms and customs. When they really shouldn't. Same goes for Thor: he's a 1500 year old alien (although granted it's unclear if he's using Asgardian or Earth years for that) and he just happens to learn that he doesn't absolutely need the hammer for his powers, until the moment when it's most convenient for the plot that he does for dramatic effect. Thor is constantly humanised, even though he really shouldn't be. Then there's loki saying that Asgardians' lifespans are 5000 years, then in Thor Ragnarok Odin is said to be well over 500,000 years old. In Dr Strange the ancient one said: "Arrogance and fear keep you from learning the basic and most important lesson of all: it's not about you." A lot of people hate this movie because: "Oh it's too easy, oh it's too convenient, oh the character is not presented as relatable enough, oh it's too woke", or for some reason that has nothing to do with the franchise itself but to do with the cast. But they forget that being a superhero is not about fame, ease, glory, cleverness, convenience, skill, emotions, politics, or about the real-life people who create the fictional heroes, it's about simply being kind in a spectacular fashion. And Captain Marvel is a story about someone who, whatever else she may be, is kind. And then there's the issue of envy: Captain Marvel is objectively speaking more powerful than almost all of, if not all of, the other avengers, individually speaking. She didn't deliberately earn her powers no, but given that she was willing to die just to stop the bad guys from getting their energy core, she's certainly kind enough to be worthy of it, so in a sense, she has earned it. The trouble with the rest of the MCU is that most of the other avengers' powers are deliberately earnt, such as Thor working his ass off to get his skills and being pushed to his limit to unlock his powers, the same goes for Tony, Steve, Dr Strange, Clint, Natasha, Sam, Tchalla, and Ant-man. And yet the avengers, even those whose powers are given by either others or by chance, are statistically speaking, mostly, very insisngificant compared to Carol. And that sense of insignificance, makes them look unimportant in the eyes of the petulant amongst the MCU fandom. Lots of people think "Oh Captain Marvel is a cop-out." Yeah well when the stakes are that high and the danger that unstoppable, you sure as hell will need either a cop-out or an astonishing genius to save the day under those conditions, and you'd have to be insanely arrogant, to the point of petulant, to believe otherwise. And sadly a lot of the MCU fandom is very petulant. I am glad to say that you yourself are not a petulant person Honestly I think the MCU has been degraded because they are so addicted to excitement and action and drama that is designed to be emotional rather than logical, that they have grown ignorant. "Textbook narcissism", in the context of billions of lives and liberties at stake, is not a joke, it's not relatable, it's not clever, it's not responsible, it's not educational, it's stupid writing that really only entertains stupid people. As a disguise it could work, but not as a genuine coping mechanism. Take my word for it: don't judge a show by how other people judge it as good or bad: judge it by how you yourself judge it. And how you judge it now, doesn't equate to how you will judge it later. If you'll excuse me quoting Shakespeare : "Does the appetite not alter?".

26:10 "I'm going to be honest with you guys, I didn't have high expectations for this film. I guess, mainly because of the fact that people were trash-talking this film quite a lot in my comments section, and, and really not hyping it up as they hyped some of the other films up. And, I don't know if that has anything to do with the fact that it's a female led super-hero and a female co-directed this film, which is very new for Marvel, as far as I know. At least, not that I've noticed; no female has directed a marvel cinematic universe film up to this point. Please do correct me if I'm wrong." Despite what people would like to believe, the fact that this film wasn't hyped to the same level as other films had nothing to do with the gender of the lead or co-director. Brie Larson was very vocal that this movie wasn't meant for the predominantly male audience of the MCU fandom, and used social media to tie her social agenda to the movie at every possible moment. People still went to see the movie opening night, because it was released between 'Infinity War' and 'Endgame', but after that, interest dropped off sharply as it cheapened various plot points in the MCU. A lot of people were upset that the "last time (Fury) trusted someone" was to doctor who prescribed antibiotics to deal with Goose's scratch, or that the entire Avengers Initiative was named after Carol. We all know why it was done - to set up Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as the future leader of the Avengers - but a large segment of the audience (women included) were sick of her sniping at the fans, and didn't want to see Brie Larson as part of the MCU in any way. 'Alita: Battle Angel' also had a female lead, and came out at around the same time, but was loved by the audiences (and lampooned by the professional critics), while 'Wonder Woman', which came out the year before, had both a female lead and director, was loved by both audiences and critics alike. If you listen to the hype around 'Captain Marvel', Disney billed the movie as the first female-led super-hero movie, with the first female co-director of a super-hero movie, but in the end both 'Alita' and 'Wonder Woman' did better in the box office. It didn't help that the Captain Marvel comic has failed to find an audience either: in the past 10 years it's been rebooted 9 times, and the only run that got past 12 issues featured Carol fighting a future version of herself that had gone evil (having killed the Avengers and come back in time to kill them again). Carol has also been revealed to be half-Kree, have a half-sister, and according to leaked cover art, she will soon be wielding Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) and the mystic arts of Doctor Strange as the new Sorceress Supreme. Disney/Marvel are desperate to make her the preeminent hero, but there's just not enough interest in the character to justify the expense.

Black Widow piloted the quinjet in Avengers, so there has been an example in the MCU (without going into Agents of SHIELD where the main pilot is a woman) In the scene where Monica helped Carol pick her new colors, every color scheme except the neon one was something that had been used by a Captain Marvel in the comics (either Carol or Mar-Vell, who was male in the comics). I'm guessing that Goose was Mar-Vell's pet and that's how she ended up on Earth.

Luckily, it was still showing in cinemas, so I went on Tuesday at half past one (had to take half-day off work; worth it) to see Captain Marvel and the next day, on Wednesday I was back to see the premiere of Endgame.

People were ragging on it because of Brie Larson, leaving negative reviews and scores way below than it should have been even if they had not seen the movie as well as pitting it against Alita. (Edited for name spelling correction)

@@AttonBrown But....that's literally not what happened. It destroys Mar Vells character then skips him being the first Captain Marvel. Which is kinda a big deal. Then they skip Monica Rambeaus stint as cap. Then they butcher Carols character either due to the writing, acting, or mixture of the two. Those are all movie problems that have nothing to do Bree in real life or pitting it against Alita. All the focus on people ragging on Bree because she's a terrible person is just an attempt to cover marvel blowing this one.

Well, I didn't particularly dislike her, but I see where a lot of people are coming from. Her Captain Marvel performance did feel somewhat emotionless and monotone. To me, that was the one thing that brought the movie down from good to just okay. I just couldn't form any kind of attachment to her character. I don't think that's entirely her fault, though. It probably has more to do with how the character was written/directed.

well there was rumors she had said something like "I don't want white men to watch Captain Marvel." ... and without facts checking a hate mob grew because of it. But yea, the movie is great, the character itself is abit overpowered though .. kinda like superman :)

People were very critical of Brie Larson's performance in this movie for some reason but I think she's fine and Samuel Jackson is just awesome. It also grows on you if you have watched Agents of Shield because of the Phil Coulson connection. Everybody should watch AoS because it's one of the best shows ever and also has the best representation of people of color of any show of its kind that I can think of.

Contrary to the dominant narrative among internet commenters, most people who saw Captain Marvel liked it. It made over a billion dollars worldwide and received an 'A' cinema score from viewers. I think it's great.

There was a lot of misogyny in the dominant narrative among internet commenters. I remember one KZitemr in particular who literally criticized the movie for not making Captain Marvel a hyper-sexualized teenaged boy's fantasy.

In the comics both the Kree and the Skrulls are both terrible and are engaged in a never ending war so the skrulls being refugees instead was a pleasant surprise since they averted expectations

To be honest, I didn't like that part. I mean, granted on the whole the Skrull could be warmongering and this is a small group of refugees, but I always liked the fact that the Kree, the Skrull and a third race (I forgot who) are always at war with each other in the comics. I also didn't like how they did Fury's character but that's just my personal opinion

Yeah, a bunch of manbabies got their feelings hurt because they found out that she said something about how she thinks there should be more women reviewers when she was doing press for A Wrinkle in Time (because 40 year old white men don't have the same reactions to films about girls or women so she feels they judged it too harshly) so they started spreading gossip about her and downvoting the movie.
