Fraser, mate, thank you so much for sharing this. I've just inherited an old C70 and was curious about conversion. I'm totally going for it! Amazing job with the legs and extra headroom. Nicking that idea right now. Thank you so much. So happy. The sleeping bag idea is genius too. Thank you thank you.

We sort of fell upon a very usable mattress solution. For my wife and I, each of us have a (used) yoga mat underneath a thin, self-inflating air mattress we picked up from Costco. I'm 60 and have issues sleeping on my side. This solution is as good as my bed...better even. Because the air gap in the bag is only about 3cm when fully inflated, and there's insulating compressed foam inside for the bag to expand, heat-loss is minimal. We have camped in temps around freezing with no issues. We went on a 3-week, 10,000km road trip a couple of years ago and this arrangement inside our tent worked like a charm.

Love it ,I converted my Dacia Duster to a camper for a year with a full wooden over floor as the sears didn't go flat and the original boot well as it would have been covered by the new floor and a hatch on it to gain access, Put a twelve volt strip light in the back there's also a standard factory 12v socket on the rear parcel shelf permanent plastic fitting.Heres where I had trouble I had no time for thermal blinds and boy I froze my balls off later on ( great tip salvation army store Eastbourne was in 2016 selling clean and new blankets great!!).Now the whole point to this was I work as a festival and events contractor and this was an alternative to a shity tent as i had been found in one the year before with double pneumonia and severe dehydration.I was later told after two weeks in the hospital including ICU I had aprox 6 hours to live so this was a better idea. The hardest part was the roof bars for my used top box the rails on a duster are thick and a close friend of the family has the contract to fit the roof bars and other external fittings for BT vans so mine cost £100 and are commercial grade so I've kept them on ,The bed was single five or six camping mats free from the fields of Glastonbury were I work on the bins and a couple of matching sleeping bags!I bought a separate leisure battery for under my driver's seat. The floor was built on a wooden frame, Stripped last year when I bought an old caravan and the Dacia weak diesel couldn't pull the van underweight mind, with the floor in .The wood was new and my friend Jafa the joiner(that is his name)planned and built it .

Awesome conversion. Just a suggestion for a bit of privacy at the back. Purchasing a gazebo side that can be pegged to the back with strong clothes pegs or the black metal paper clips you can buy that clip on like a peg, just for when you need to change or need to stop a cold draft etc.

You just caused some nostalgia for my old volvo 70. Well I did slightly different modifications, like removable shelf in truck, also secondary battery. I was quite impressed how spacious volvo was. Until it became to small for longer trips. :D Now I have VW sharan, simple boring car, almost same dimensions as volvo, but with much more space inside for stuff like water container, small fridge, camping tools, some essential car repair tools... And still looking at old volvos with envy because of their design.

Insulation/blackout suggestion for those on a real budget. To do the side windows I found a couple of beach mats one side silvered the other with a woven texture (like a reed blind) sandwiched with some light padding which I then fitted some eyelets, probably no good if your camping in Alaska but gives a little privacy and reflects the bright sun. By the way it cost under 20euro to do both sides! Not sure how long they'll last but I thought it was worth a 20euro gamble.

I have not seen you previous videos so here are 3 questions: 1- did you put the spare and jack in your roof pod? 2- how do you keep your second battery churched? 3- How safe is it of use your camping stove in the trunck.. I have just acquired a 2006 cx70 and been stating at it saying to myself: mmm , could I go on the road on a minimalist way to camp, boondock.or go to a camp site once a while. Other questions: where does the waste go, and what kind of ‘potty’ do use?

This is an older Volvo, mate. It's the V70 I, so it's the first generation V70. The Volvo 850 and 940 models before it were just as long and wide as this one and there really isn't much of a difference in the end, when you park them next to each other. I have a V70 I myself and a friend has a 940 plus I know another person who has the 850. So in the end, it doesn't matter much and for what you get, I'd say that the most comfortable and pleasant car to drive is the V70. In no small part due to the seat and the 5-cylinder engine in those things
