In April 2014, Elon Musk visited China, delivering the first Tesla Model S cars, including one to Xiaomi founder Lei Jun. Inspired by Musk and Tesla's intelligent systems, Lei Jun envisioned similar advancements for electric vehicles. Lei Jun's involvement in the automotive industry began with early investments in Nio and Xiaopeng. Despite a major setback in 2016 with Xiaomi's smartphone sales, by 2021, Xiaomi's success prompted Lei Jun to announce plans for Xiaomi's own electric car. After extensive research and consultations, Lei Jun committed $10 billion over ten years to this venture. By April 2024, Xiaomi's first car debuted, marking a significant milestone for the company and fulfilling Lei Jun's promise to Xiaomi fans.
