There's a tool for that. It's a beveled bearing. That way, you don't pull the threads.

sounds like your "friend", Had two problems. A broken stud and bad bearings. that tire and wheel will beat the bearings more driving down the road, then you could do removing a broken stud.

...depending on the length of the stud and the space between the hub plate and backing plate. It is easy on my wife's car but I have to pull the hub a bit for my car.

What I like using best is an old jam nut off an inner tie rod. With that plastic tipped nut there is a small chance you could scuff the threads.

@@ИгорьДураевуже лет 20 меняю так шпильки, в месяц около 3-6 штук, когда сезон переобуваться приезжают по 20-30 машин за месяц, проблем не было ни разу, а так вам на будущее, если не знаете момент затяжки, то берем диаметр минус шаг резьбы, тоесть тут шпилька 12 мм и шаг 1.5 и того 100% она выдержит 10.5 кг но запрессовка происходит по усилии затяжки около 4-5 кг и того 5-6 кг еще в запасе(не путайте усилие затяжки с усилием запресовки)

Put the stud in the freezer (shrinks ) and heat (expands) the hub a little makes it go in even easier.

This is a quick field fix that likely will never be a problem. No sense in pulling hub to press out/in a stud. There is a nifty tapered bearing tool that does not hurt the threads or the taper on the nut.

You never press in or out a stud dumbass. Theirs a special tool they make , to put on the stud, then the lug nut and impact it through..

Always check if wheel nuts should be oiled and then always torque to spec. You’ll never break another stud again.

Unfortunately, it is a mistake. You should tighten the screw by hand so as not to damage the teeth of the screw file. It is better to use the correct tool.

Good grade metal stud= no problem. Cheap low grade stud= brake on 2nd tire rotation torqued to spec. Friction=heat+metal=brittle.

For 90 you could have replaced all of them on that hub. If someone over torqued 1, they probably over torqued more than 1

Good idea if you don't have the proper tool. The right way to do it is with a stud installer! Best part is, there is no extra wear on anything.

When replacing studs I always used a stack of washers sprayed with a little WD-40

And now you have to replace that stud because you have stretched it! The safest way is to set your impact to the lowest torque setting, tighten the stud in then tap the side face of the hub this will pull it in without stretching it, it may take 30 seconds longer but you wont have a wheel come flying off at 70 mph.

Be careful tapping on the face of the hub, takes a lot to bend but it can happen, better to put pressure right on the stud itself

I ended up rounding my hub with this technique. Had to go to the wrecking yard to get another used hub, take out the studs and do this with a loaned tool that does the job correctly with no rotation to the stud. It was a nightmare 😭😭

Working on a lady's Camry and she said there was a knock coming from the front end so she kept having her husband tighten the lugs thinking it was a loose rim. By the time I got a hold of it, he had made all the lug nuts jump thread. Broke 8 out of 10 studs taking them off. Ugh. Ball joints were the issue...

Sometimes you have to grind one side of the round boss flat in order to slide it into the hole. All it takes is a lil bit off the side. Done this 50+ years...
