Hi Michelle and Keith. Great that you cover these sort of topics. I had a blowout on my first caravan many years ago and it was so scary I immediately bought the Tyrepal system you mention and love it. Until you have had a blowout you don't realise the value of a monitoring system. Peace of mind is worth every penny. I also purchased a black plastic floor protector sheet from Wickes which can be cut with scissors or knife to fit in your wheel arch using a strap through the wheel and it even covers the motor mover. This will protect your tyres from UV and the cracking it causes. I also use even for short periods of time, the Milenco tyre protectors that sit under the wheel and keeps the tyres in shape. On the Alko wheel lock, even if you get the card with serial number, the previous owner MUST de-register with Alko or you wont be able to register yourself. So look for it to be de-registered on the advert. Keep them coming, you two are great...

Hi Michele and Keith! Well you've got two new fans here! 🤣 Marcus and I just love your videos...and we want to tell you on a serious topic just how much you have saved us from a possible dangerous incident!! We will be going over to Helen, Jane and Archies KZitem to leave a similar comment to thank them also! Two days after lockdown we purchased our first caravan. A beautiful 2012 Lunar Lexon in immaculate condition with one previous owner, gorgeous mid bathroom, sep shower and full end bedroom! We feel very lucky for our first van! Purchased from an extremely reputable dealer (25yrs service) here in Northern Ireland. We have only done one "tester overnight trip" in the van, but have lots coming up 😎. Our tyres looked brand new, with deep tread. I went to look at the age on the tyres after watching your video. "3613" !!! Strangest thing!? I THEN noticed sever cracking on the wall of the drivers side tyre...presumably from sitting for the duration of lockdown, and possibly earlier than that with its first owner!! I contacted the dealer (who i must stress is fantastic and one of NIs top dealerships of the higher end van). He was very annoyed that the tyres had slipped through their workshop servicing and had been missed and is fitting brand new tyres free of charge immediately. I want to thank you, as new caravaners, for this safety tip (among others lol) because i can be quite certain that over the coming weeks we would have been at high risk from a motorway blowout!!! I use KZitem a lot to view, but i ain't no KZitemr lol! I am, however, an Instagrammer if you take a look over to Instagram "__.brian__" you will see! I just followed you. Marcus and I send much love and happy caravanning to you both and if you head across to NI sometime, we will get a wee glass of vino blanco 😉❤🥂

Hi Marcus & Brian, Welcome to our channel & huge congratulations on your new caravan. We’re so pleased that our safety video regarding tyres has proved beneficial to you & you’ve got it sorted before making any journeys. We also strongly recommend getting a Tyrepal system which is easily fitted within 5 minutes & monitors your tyre temperature & pressure whilst towing & will alert you if any changes develop. Wishing you both many happy travels & adventures in the future, we look forward to to sharing that glass of vino with you if we get over to NI 👍🏻🥂😀 Keith & Michele.

Hi another great video, just one thing worth mentioning is the wheel bolts they need to be checked regularly, I have seen 2 accidents this year caused by wheels coming off due to loose wheel bolts. the plate you pointed out near the door has the correct torque settings for the bolts and a reasonable torque wrench can bought quiet cheaply these days and its best to check them every trip

Hi both another very informative video. I was shocked about the the gas bottle underneath the bed 💥 I know some people block off the vent grills inside the gas locker to prevent bugs Etc from getting in. Propane & Butane gas is heavier than air so will if leaking will go down the reason why vents are at the bottom of a gas locker as in other places where gas maybe present.fridge ovens Etc. Thanks for the the information on the tyres.Have a good weekend

I took ownership of a brand new company vehicle 20yrs. ago or so, a Ford Galaxy. Over the subsequent months, within 12 at least, three of the four tyres blew whilst travelling. The company I worked for sent the tyres back to Ford for investigation, without conclusion. Scary! As someone who used to caravan regularly throughout Europe in the eighties, I find your posts very interesting. Vans seem to have come a long way since my old Dethleffs Pilote..Longest single journey Duesseldorf (where we lived) to Sorrento 1051 miles..!

Keith, Michele. TYREPAL is fantastic, gives you such peace of mind when towing. However, if you do get the system don't be surprised how much the pressures and temps increase on a long hot journey. Mine increase up to 10 psi from cold pressure setting but this is normal. I have checked this with TYREPAL themselves as I was concerned. Great value for money for such peace of mind when on the road. Nick.

As an addendum to not taking the wheels off - it is possible to still jack the caravan up but leave the wheels on. In my case I will only be using the caravan 3 - 4 months of the year, so this is crtiical in my case. I've taken all your tips ob board over the past couple of months and I've been making lists dependant on whether I'm preparing to store, Leave and arrive, the items to purchase list just gets longer every VLOG I watch :) but getting back to jacking the wheels - this is my instruction to myself and the Mobile Caravan gentleman who will be preparing to winter my van next week, he's checked it and gave me a thumbs up - but any further advice welcome: CONNECT TOW-HITCH ON CARAVAN TO TOW-BALL ON CAR. ENSURE HAND BREAK IN THE CAR IS ON. ENSURE HAND-BREAK IS ON THE CARAVAN AFTER HITCHING! LEAVE CAR CONNECTED TO CARAVAN. Use Bottle-Jack on axial as close behind the wheel that will be raised first (place a wood block under Jack) - use a chock under the wheel opposite the raised wheel. When raised, place an Axial-Stand under axial near the raised wheel and lower the jack so that wheel just clears the ground. Then use chock on the raised wheel. Follow the same routine on the other wheel. The wheels should be just above the ground. DO NOT REMOVE WHEELS AND LEAVE CHOCKS IN PLACE.

This is so true about checking tyres we bought our caravan through a dealer who we thought was respectful and trustworthy turns out they were not either turns out our tyres were 2005 all 5 Lucky for us we were not using caravan straight away There was a lot of work need to be done which we found out when it was serviced inclding gas leaking battery electic lead bare wires and other work needed so still haven't used it As now in shop of qualified caravan repair gentleman We have purchased Tyre Pal we also bought the lock & level double & single for levelling caravan And the tom tom camper for navigating as we would not have a clue which route to take without it I'm glad you mentioned about Alko lock as I didn't get the card with mine so looks like I need to invest in one that does have card also like you we were going to take wheels of for winter but now you mentioned about insurance this won't be happening Just a bit of advice if people are going to buy a caravan They may be a reputable dealer but get someone in to check the caravan before you buy Get a mobile caravan service person to check it Don't do what we did and believe everything dealer tells you

I am way late (thinking of getting a caravan again for UK visits having grown up there) and some nice tips. I think the 5 years on tyres goes from point of first inflation and the gas set up badge will thus be more reliable as to when you should consider replacing. Of course, you may go longer if certified per the law but 5 is my mark max.......Something to look into as that's twice if keep for 10 years v .........

I'd like to add regarding the Alko lock is that if you do buy a second hand lock, not only do you need the lock number as you mentioned but the original owner of the lock also needs to deregister the lock on the Alko website before you can re-register it in your name

Adding a few important additions to instructions in previous comment after the caravan has been jacked up: Using Jockey wheel slightly tilt caravan, lowering the front to allow rain water to run off during wintering. Carefully rundown the Steadies onto wood blocks, use leveller blocks (in Caravan) if necessary. DISCONNECT CAR FROM CARAVAN - ENSURE CARAVAN IS STABLE ON AXIAL-STANDS MAKE SURE CARAVAN HAND-BREAK IS OFF TO AVOID BRAKE SHOE LININGS RUST BONDING TO THE BRAKE DRUM. Cheers

Hi new to your channel and enjoying your comments, reference to the blow out you say that you can go as slow as you want well I have to disagree there are road laws that advise you do not drive at low speeds on a motorway because this is dangerous, you have to drive at a reasonable speed in excess of I think of 40 mph otherwise you risk being hit by other drivers from behind. I also think caravans can be driven in excess of 60 mph. The UK max is 60mph

First. The gas above the liquid level is lp vapour, not air (normally). The real reason for keeping a gas cylinder upright is because IF the valve was faulty the liquid leak would be about 250 times worse than a vapour leak. I cannot think of any reason why storing an lpg cylinder on it's side would cause it to explode!!!! Scare story.
@danuk2005
5 жыл бұрын
I've read that if there is a pressure build up in the cylinder due to heat the pressure safety valve is designed to release gas not liquid, therefore it won't work to release the pressure and the cylinder could explode. Purely keeping a gas cylinder on its side is not the cause of the explosion. Having said that, keeping a full cylinder rolling around under a bed is not the safest thing to do

HI Keith and michele just a couple things allways torque wheels which is on the side of the van were the tyre pressure are and make sure you set at the right newton meters[ESPECIALLY] if your van is fitted with alloy wheels like yours and mine before any trip with my caravan and just one more thing maybe you could put in one of your videos which happen to me last weekend i was on a caravan club site ready for the trip home when i come to connect the van to the car the socket would not fit into the car socket my wife said are you doing it right yes was the reply still it would not fit any way a couple of guys from different vans came over said lets have a go still did not fit i said to my wife can you ask one of the wardens to come and have a look he came with this little plastic cap and said because you got a new caravan with just one socket what can happen is the wire inside the plug are a bit bunch in and can move so this can put your plug from your van out of line with your socket on you car so what to do is put this cap onto your lead from your caravan turn it and it will keep your socket aligned and have try it a few times and it works the warden says when you disconnect from you car put this cap on and leave it on but with this cap on it will not fit into the holder in your caravan but he said thats ok p.s thay sell them caps in the site shop for about £3 you may be able to bye at most caravan shops keep up the good work look forward to more videos david

Very scary to have a blow out so well done to those concerned for controlling the unit. I have Tyrepal on my caravan for piece of mind, what I also have, and have had on every caravan I’ve owned is Tyron Bands. These bands prevent the tyre coming off the rim when a blow out happens and prevents a lot of instability as it happens and allows you to bring the caravan to a safe stop. One other benefit is preventing any damage to the wheel arch area and possibly the side of the caravan when the blow out happens that may well spoil your holiday and definitely be very costly. Tyre’s are made up with steel in their construction, so this will be very destructive at 60mph, also all Traffic Police cars have these fitted so if they are good enough for them and at £150 (approx) it’s worth every penny than the worry and inconvenience should it happen to you.
