Keep it hangered, fly paved airport to paved airport and have a cleaning party after every flight and you don't have to worry about crap in the belly. That's not what a Bear Hawk is for. I had the same mind set when I built my Cub except used Kydex instead of carbon fiber. I put nutplates and nutzerts in the attach tabs so I can remove the floorboards without taking the fabric off the belly. great job.

Please Please wear a filtered mask when you are working with Carbon Fiber. It is glass and if it gets into your lungs it doesn't come out. Would love to see you fly for many years. Great video!

Dude you’re over here making this shit in your garage making me believe i can do this in my shop. Plan on building a Bearhawk 5 and i’m convinced i can do this. I really want nice yellow carbon/kevlar panels. Beautiful work and outstanding attention to detail. Not sure where you’re at but you ever fly to JLN hit me up and ill detail your rig in exchange for a short fly around 🤘🤘

looks great - very good work - funny you mentioned weather tec - i had the same thought last night - thinking someone should offer a rubber mat with sides moulded in for the bearhawk - very cool - would your CF floor be a negitive for a belly pod? or wouldn't matter?

It os not a negative for a belly pod. I am not currently planning on adding one of those. Thanks for the compliment!

Great job again. Curious- what was the aerosol spray as you laid out the carbon? And, have you thought of having a removable belly pan instead of wrapping the bottom of the fuselage? My dad had done that with his Skybolt and made inspection & cleaning inside easy each annual. I’m thinking of doing it with our 5.
@barnbuiltbearhawk7267
Жыл бұрын
The spray was 3M spray adhesive. I used to do annuals on Cessna's and other singles. I was always surprised at how little visibility and access I had through the access points. I am going to make the entire rear floor one piece and easily removeable to improve access and inspection. That way I can keep the belly as light fabric.

Nice job, great videos! How are you going to insulate between carbon fibre and air frame to prevent galvanic corrosion? Thx
@barnbuiltbearhawk7267
Жыл бұрын
The airframe has a strong coating that provides a good barrier. In addition the inside of the airplane is a dry space. So no need to worry.

Out of curiosity,how do you plan to prevent galvanic corrosion?
@barnbuiltbearhawk7267
7 ай бұрын
I have three sets of rules for that wet space, dry space and critical system. The inside of the airplane is considered dry space. Very low risk of corrosion occurring. Additionaly, the airframe has a robust coating system that will protect the 4130. Lastly, and only on interior panels, I am using aluminum hardware so that they act as the anode as they are easily replaced if corrosion does occur. I have different rules for a wet space and any critical system.

@@bobbyjoedill it is the perfect plane for my mission, which is, long Xcountry trips with the family, dog and plenty of bags AND a good amount of backcountry flying. I need both and the beathawk fits that mission. The kit is great for the price. Instructions are not detailed but the community has all the tips you need.

Are you keeping a running total of the weight of the new parts vs the ones you will not be using from the kit? Just started exploring Bearhawk as an option... the one thing is the aluminum platting on the bottom is part of the fire separation if there is an engine fire ... though I don't think the carbon would be much less resistant. Keeping track of the weight can help make sure you take off as much in the rear as the front so you don't end up needing ballast to keep it in cg.
@barnbuiltbearhawk7267
Жыл бұрын
The aluminum floor plates won't do much for fire separation. If the fire gets past the titanium firewall than pretty much game over. And yes, I am keeping track of the weight per part.

A lot of people enjoy building one exactly how they want it. The bearhawk doesn't really have a comparable certified airplane for the price. They land slow, fly quick and have a lot of usefull load. I'm currently building my own airplane from scratch... it's one of a kind, and will be 3x the price of ones I could just buy... But, they won't be what I want.
