Torn and restored card tricks have the corners of the card restore one piece at a time. This version is very different. The card is torn up and revealed to instantly restore itself. I also gave it a different presentation.
This torn and restored card trick is by Justin Miller and is a download at Ellusionist called Decent. This is my handling of this trick and is totally DIFFERENT to the original handling.
History of This Handling:
I wanted an organic way to do a torn and restored card trick effect.
I found this version and liked it very much. As this is not the original handling I had to think long and hard about the choreography of the hand positions. My handling is a VERY difficult trick to perform but the original handling can be done with a signed card if required. There are no gimmicks here just pure sleight of hand. This is the way the trick should be performed but Miller had to make the method commercially viable for magicians of most skill sets able to perform it.
My beautiful wife Mrs Field gave me the idea to display the torn card pieces in-between the fingertips. Other hand positions were suggested to me by my friend and mentor Michael Vincent from Dai Vernon's thoughts on hand symmetry.
The presentation was my idea. A card being ripped apart always suggested the end of a love affair to me. Putting the card back in one piece and healing is what your heart will do in time......I thought a poem would be the best way to put this across and to be different.
Although only about a minute in length this video took two weeks from start to finish.
The best way to work on any new trick is to do a bit then leave it alone and then come back to it over and over. If possible video your-self performing the trick then anything you are not happy with will stand out and you can change. It is not easy to watch yourself in a mirror as you perform so videoing yourself and watching back is the better option.
