This one I like, thanks to Mitch I found Hyezmar’s website and got his plans as well. They’re all not that good, but there are some gems in there that are worth a look.

Mike, do you feel that three ply cardboard with paint and several coats of poly would last an hour in a fresh water lake? I am overbuilding my boat with styrofoam and fiberglass tape and Titebond III.

With a good single coat of poly and full coverage of the cardboard, it should last forever. Now poly will eventually degrade with UV exposure, but that's a huge "eventually". Sounds like you're building a real boat, not just a cardboard racer, huh? Styrofoam and fiberglass typically aren't allowed, but that's awesome if they are, because you can do so much more.

How durable is it in the water for a long period of time. Like 2 hours. Do you still have the boats.

Hey Paul. I've never had one in the water for more than about 20 minutes. A typical race is over in under 3, so I've gone way beyond. The Solo 10 is still around, because it's not too large. I threw The Flash away after the race, because I didn't want to have to store such a large boat. (It was sad)

is the paint the only way to get the boat waterproof?

No. Varnish is legal as well. I always double up and use both. The paint has to go on first because it will not stick to the varnish.
