Diagnosis and management of peripheral artery disease
Mary McGrae McDermott is the Jeremiah Stamler Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics and of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.Dr McDermott has devoted her career to advancing our understanding of peripheral artery disease (PAD), including documenting the magnitude and significance of declines in walking ability over time in PAD and identifying treatments to improve walking performance in PAD. As the principal investigator for numerous randomized clinical trials on PAD, funded by grants from the National Institute on Aging and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, divisions of the National Institutes of Health, Dr McDermott's research team currently focuses on interventions to reduce or prevent mobility loss and enhance the quality of life for individuals with PAD. She is a deputy editor at the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
