You don't want them fully sitting in the speaker recess. They'll be way too far from your ears and will be exceptionally quiet. I run the 45mm JBL speakers in my RF-1400 and use the extra velcro pad, which fits perfectly in the recess and will bring the speaker nice and close to your ear, because the padding creates quite a bit of space between the inner shell and your ears. As an FYI the 4+ comes with 40mm drivers not 45. The 45mm are an upgrade and what I use, but even with the 40mm I used the pads.

I do have a Cardo Freecom 4+ and it came with the exact speakers as in the video. They don't fit in the Shoei J-Cruise II. However, when measuring the speakers, I found out that they are 45 mm in diameter? Which is very odd, because the Freecom 4+ only was sold with the 40 mm?? I compared them to another Cardo Freecom 4+ set I've bought earlier and the speakers are identical. Wtf? Or is the so called '40 mm' speaker in reality bigger? Anyway, I've installed them in my Shoei by using the extra velcro pads, which does the job fine.

@@devozhd4092I’m fairly sure the outer casing is 45mm regardless of the size of the driver inside so the fit should be the same for either I believe

I returned the freecom because it didn't seem like it'd fit. Maybe I'll give it another shot. What did you do with the tabbed plastic that's part of the helmet foam that goes over the ear well? I couldn't get my tabs to plug into the slots with the speaker in place. Did you leave those tabs out of their slots?

I don't have a helmet like that so I'm not sure, but is that plastic kydex or some form of heat-moldable plastic? If so, you may be able to heat it up a bit and maybe shape it to the speaker. Just a thought

What Ive realized recently my bell and agv k6 take in wind noise worse than my LS2 assault and Shoei x-14, since the LS2 and Shoei are quite helmets, you can put like 40mm or less and they will still be as loud bc the helmets themselves are naturally quiter.

Just had the 45mm JBL speakers installed in mine, the dealer did it for me and just had the speaker sit above and its fine for me, I dont feel the speakers. I heard others say they put the pad under to fill the void and had them sit like that. If I did feel the speakers I would use a dremmel or a heat source to just make the hole larger.

Shoei makes a Velcro base which should be sufficient to clear the hole with the speakers attached for a more flush setup. In truth, however, by the time you put in the padding (provided you position the speakers correctly to match your ears, and not necessary the hole), you’d be just fine, as you’ll hardly notice the difference. On the other hand, if one is anal about having a bigger hole as to fit bigger speakers, you can away just grind out a bigger hole with a Dremel attachment… Then again, you can also visit your nearest Cycle Gear, and they’ll probably figure out the best solution for you. Assuming you already rectified this issue… maybe my comment will help someone else. Take care. Good luck, and Ride safe. ✌️😎
