The easiest way I have found to breed them is to just stick a male and female in a planted tank for about 10 days, then remove them and voila babies will start to appear. Don't have any other fish in the tank because they will be easily eaten even by other fry.

Great video, Cory! I inadvertently helped my CPDs to breed earlier this year when doing a rescape; moved the adults into holding tank for two days, then moved them out again. Two weeks later, noticed teeny tiny fry. Six months later, those fry are still alive and doing well in their own tank with Chili and Pheonix Rasboras. And yes, CPD's can be very shy unless there are other fish present to convince them it's safe to come out.

My original #8 are happily living and spawning in a fairly heavily planted 20 H with a sunburst platy trio. I was planning on it being a species only tank, but the platys helped so much with the cpds shyness that I'm very glad I added them. I'm using guppy grass for spawning material which I'm moving between the parent's tank and a planted, established grow out ten gallon. Parent's tank 74 degrees. Grow out tank a little warmer- 76.

I looked into this recently as that name is still around stateside in places: turns out, that was one of their first names (this fish is relatively new to the hobby) once genetics were done they were found to be MORE closely related to danios- although they are (or at least were) the only described species within their genus. I have my suspicions about a different "rasbora" I recently saw at an lfs but haven't looked into yet.

These were the first fish I special-ordered online, got 8 of them a few months ago. They were so tiny I decided NOT to put them in with my betta like I had planned, but instead put them in the 29 gallon I had just cycled. They've thrived in there. I hear some say they're very shy but mine aren't especially so- they will dart away and into cover when I approach but within a minute they're all out and swimming around again. I have a planted tank with driftwood, cabomba, swords, and moss, and they love hovering at that mid-level point he mentioned above the moss and wood. I've added dwarf neo shrimp and gold laser cories into the tank- they were scared of the cories for less than a day before they figured out there was no threat and they're all getting along great now. I've got a bunch of baby shrimp in there now and TWO BABY DANIOS! They're so tiny it's hard to find them, lol. They stay up near a plant near the surface, away from the larger adults. I'm hoping they'll make it (had them a few weeks now and so far so good). I love watching these fish- they're interesting and constantly moving about, exhibiting behaviors, and exploring their tank.

They LOVE Hikari Fancy Guppy food even more then Fluval Bug Bites... whole or crushed a bit... they also love to play soccer games with sunken Vitalis Catfish or Shrimp pellets, also crushed or whole... just need some bottom cleanup critters of choice... if they are shy feeding in the daytime, then early morning, or later evening when light is much lower... a few platies have been more helpful with shyness then any other fish but now probably there will be no cpd babies surviving.

I've got my CPD's (6) in a tank with ember tetras (5), chili rasboras (10) and two female bettas. They are NOT shy at all. What I like to do for my fish is I crush their pellet food into mostly a powder and leave bigger chunks for the bettas. I swirl it around until it floats midway, cause the tetras like to catch on the way down too, and my chili rasboras like to eat closer to the bottom. For the danios today this worked out really well. The CPD's only entered the tank yesterday evening, and likely due to the number of fish, they are not reclusive at all. Could be the number of fish, could be that they are very small (Just over 1/2 inch), could be that there's enough hiding places and plants. Whatever it may be, they aren't shy in the slightest. I've already seen some breeding behavior which is incredible. I didn't think they'd start up right after entering the tank, and figured they'd need more time to adjust to a new environment. The danios don't have an established territory yet, but they seem to like the front right corner that nobody else has ever wanted, so that will probably become their spot.
