@racheljacksonnn

@@sammanager6266 Hi Sam, thanks for your question, sorry for the late response. Do you have a prior engineering degree? I believe for field service engineers you would be employed by the company itself and work in various hospitals providing training and maintaining a specific line of equipment from the company you work for. A similar role would be a clinical technologist working in medical equipment management where you would work in one hospital and maintain a whole bunch of equipment across that hospital. In each of these roles you would get training through your employers and I don't know you would be expected to have specific experience with the devices. I would say you make me able to earn more in a quicker time by working with a private company! I just posted my new video about BME so watch that if you're interesting in learning more about the degree!

Amazing content , you explained things very clearly, I have a question though From what I hear from people is that biomedical engineering is a very diverse field and you can even become a software engineer at a top company if you have good programming skills , but other majors like cs restricts you to the software industry, so from what I think is getting a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering can open doors to all industries and then you can choose wherever you want to go be it fields related to CS or core BME, what's your take on this?
@racheljacksonnn

Hi Kush, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I agree with you, I have friends from university in bee degree who are now working in software engineering roles! I am surprised this is not the case for CS too however.

Hi, Thank you for making this video :) I am considering studying Biomedical engineering at University (In Scotland) because I am very interested in science, the human body, biochemistry, physics and engineering, so I think it would be a good fit. However I am colour blind (reds and greens). Although my colour blindness is not very severe, I do not do well with colour blind tests and vision assessments. I was wondering if you would know if I would get employed as a biomedical engineer if I am colour blind (I have heard that electrical engineering and chemical engineering are very strict about colour vision) Would you know if it would hold me back, making biomedical engineering not a great field for me to pursue. In your experience have you found colour blind people to be turned away from jobs or further study, or would it not matter that much? Thank you so much - Cian :)
@racheljacksonnn

Hi Cian! Thank you for watching! I do not think that would be an issue, and it definitely shouldn't be a reason for employers not to employ you as that would be discriminating.

@racheljacksonnn

Aww thanks your your lovely comment ☺️ I think it kind of depends. A few of my uni friends moved in order to get jobs but I don’t think that’s very unusual. I think you have to be willing to apply for things that may not explicitly say BME!! And also be organised with applications because a lot of bigger companies have pretty early closing dates for vacancies which will pass by very quickly if you’re not prepared. Feel free to ask any more questions 🥰

Hi Rachel, very well explained ... couldn't find as much info on the internet as I did here... I got offers in both biomedical science and biomedical engineering. wasn't sure about future career prospects of either degree, however, I quite enjoy stem subjects BIOchemPHysics. would it be possible to work as a college or secondary school teacher as a backup plan? with BMEng. also absolutely love the healthcare sector, + I like to try as many things as a paramedic, an ANP, teaching and a scientist. and is BMEng registered as CHPC? and do you have to do clinical years without pay to be an accredited biomedical engineer?
@racheljacksonnn

Hi Shahid, thank you for watching. I'm glad I could be of assistance! You could of course go into teaching following engineering, you would have an extensive understanding of a number of sciences. In the UK there is a Scientist Training Programme to become a clinical scientist, this takes around 3 years and from there you would become a HCPC registered clinical scientist.
