Hi Diane, thank you so much for sharing - I found this to be very useful. I have a 40 year old African Grey called Beau. He outlived his original family and I adopted him two years ago when his owner passed. They kept him in a cage for 38 years and he was a little neglected in my opinion - no plucking or anything like that but never allowed out. When I adopted him I got him under vet care and he out all of the time now - basically just sleeps in the cage. A friend of the previous owner told me that he sometimes falls at night when he dreams but I wasnt buying it. He was fallen a few times over the last two years so I have removed the top perches and so on. What I have noticed is that he doesnt really hold anything with this feet so we have been working on some exercises to encourage him to grip more things with his feet. But I do suspect that he has some type of arthritis which seems to be worsened by the cold. Im noting the medications that you're listing and will consult our avian vet. Thank you for the video.

Thanks for sharing. My Timneh is 28 and I am noticing signs of arthritis when she perches. She is sitting with her head lower and leaning. She is fully flighted and has been most of her life. We encourage flighted games and she is participating in activities. She also has an aviary that she can play in. I took her to an avian vet in St. Louis and he prescribed Cellebrex so we are trying that but I do not see much change in her perching posture. I suspect arthritis is not in her feet but probably higher in her legs. Vet did notice swelling when he physically handled her. I will look into some of your suggestions for pain management and maybe some vet wrap. She is somewhat active so not wanting to get too aggressive with treatment. Thanks again and hope Timmy feels good soon! Dr Fitzgerald treated Bailey (Senegal) when she was in Grass Valley so you can say “Hi” from Phinney, Doug and Mona
