The ancient proverb "Nuôi lợn ăn cơm nằm, nuôi tằm ăn cơm đứng" can be translated into English as follows: "Raising pigs, they eat while lying down; raising silkworms, they eat while standing." This saying implies that raising pigs is a more relaxed and less demanding task, allowing the pig farmer to have leisure time to eat comfortably. On the other hand, raising silkworms requires a lot of care and attention. The silkworm farmer must constantly be present to provide mulberry leaves, especially during the period when the silkworms spin their cocoons and eat voraciously. This demanding nature of silkworm farming leaves the farmer with no time to sit down and enjoy a leisurely meal, hence the phrase "eating while standing." Perhaps due to the labor-intensive care required, silk produced from silkworms is highly valued and preferred by consumers.
