Micheal Nymans musical score here is the best Ive heard in any movie .

One of the most perfect compositions made by Nyman with dramatic construction. A story itself describing the amour fou with peaks as at 2'18'', 7'35'' and the finale, givibg sense to the Carrington dispair. Masterpiece.

Something about this movie and music has enchanted me and haunted me since I was 11 years old. I adore it and simultaneously both movie and score tap into this existential sadness within. It’s incredible how beautiful this is and how well it encapsulates the story and the tragedy/loneliness and love between them both. This is my favourite music from one of my favourite movies.

Oh, boy...touched my deep very inside just like that... Not until the scene comes to this song, I was in a mood of crying. The movie was an overall masterpiece gifted to us while the last century was ending. Like its first one, the last decade of the flamboyant 20th century made us to see its big social events like the rise and fall of communism, 2 global great wars, our first alive meeting with the universe, very emotional relations of love, new technologies and unprecedented masterpieces as such. I was lucky enough to witness the last part and those unique experiences I've lived and seen in the last 10 years of my beloved 20th century probably was its own way of saying "GOODBYE !" to us all. I guess 20th century finally presented us those wonderful things in its 2nd half as if trying to fix the painful events happened in the first half. Goodbye 20th Century ! We will indeed never forget you...

A sense of tragedy is ever present in this music, its a prevailing sadness which underlies all life.

IMO not so much "tragedy" as intense and painful longing. In the film Carrington is outside the house and through the windows she can see various couples enjoying love and she is caught between lovers who reject her and is in love with someone who cannot giver her the intimate love she wants/needs but always seems to elude her which is where the tragedy lies.

A sense of tragedy is appropriate if you know what happened to several key persons in this story. Very sad outcomes.

Fascinatingly, this music is an adaptation of one of Nyman's String Quartets, thus making it a piece of "absolute" music. (i.e. one originally without any dramatic context). How remarkable that it adapts so beautifully to this remarkable segment of the Hampton film. Also love the larger string contingent, which gives it just that additional sonic push. Some of my favorite music of all time.

Their story, intermingled and entangled must be one of the saddest I've ever come across. The film blew me away. Motivated me to read bios on Carington and Lytton, which only showed how odd they both were. These types of films are so sad that a lot of people just shy away from them because they are overwhelmingly dark. "The Hours" was the same and it too had a great cast and great soundtrack.

Film davvero bello che mi ha fatto conoscere l'esistenza di questa artista, la colonna sonora è stupenda e da sempre una delle mie preferite. Non capisco come mai questa pellicola sia così poco popolare...

I fell in love with this movie the first time I heard the music. The music goes so beautifully with this very touching movie. I simply had to have the soundtrack. It is the musical score which pulls you into the movie and touches your heart and you just cannot let it go.
