It would be nice to hear much more from Laura. It’s good hearing Carl take total responsibility and there are NO EXCUSES. It’s so true, you could have destroyed your family but you destroyed a church of thousands of innocent people. And the public that looks at the state of the church. It’s good to grow and learn so that is the best step. You’ve been the one talking for years. Lauras voice is the one needed to be heard from now. I was part of Hillsong Connecticut and when everything happened I remember feeling betrayed and lied to. It was the church I got saved and baptized. At the time when the news broke out of what happened I thankfully was in therapy and I was able to navigate through it in a healthy way and even though I decided to no longer be part of Hillsong I still kept my faith stronger and believing in God. Watching this today made me very emotional and I didn’t realize I need this conversation from you guys to help my healing journey of that season in my life. We have opened up the gates of talking about things I'd rather run away from. We have healed and grew immensely. It is possible. Do not let google tell you "once a cheater always a cheater". I love that they’re healing. I love love love that he received help. But this entire podcast was about them, with maybe one or two mentions about God? It was him explaining how he’s changed and it took 25mins to mention God. Which I totally understand, but from a former pastor, it just felt like a podcast to regain his reputation instead of to glorify God. It felt like a celebrity apology rather than an expression of heartfelt godly transformation 😭 It felt like a repentant story without the power of God. If your story of redemption has more to do with your own power and grit than the power of the Holy Spirit, then is this truly a redemption story or just a story of changed behavior? Purely talking in a Christian sense of the word redemption. I never want my own testimony to be more about me, than the power of God. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about me. My life has one point to it, and it’s to point to Him. To glorify him. To praise him. Especially in times where I trip and fall. When I get back up, it’s to shout HIS name even louder than before I stumbled. Honestly, I don’t know. Purely my own thoughts on the podcast! Praying continually for them and their beautiful family!! ❤

He has a long journey to go on- begin with making space for his wife, letting her process and share her heart, letting her finish her sentences and not talk over her, especially the part of their kids. This is an hour of him preaching/ teaching- he’s gifted, absolutely. But this video shows more of his gifting than the actual story of what happened. Laura asks him: how can you stand in stage and preach but continue that relationship? He doesn’t answer this. I don’t think he knows himself.

I can tell you that I did not follow Carl Lentz until he cheated on his wife and his entire congregation turned on him. I always thought his faith was earnest, but a little too rock star for me. But when he fell, is when I started praying for him and DM'ing my prayers to him because I know that type of pain and hurt. When you mess up, some Christians will act like you are the scum of the earth. They forget seventy times seven and how Jesus treated people and cast you out. But thank you God for breaking Carl down to save him. You're children needed to see how you can tear us down to rebuild us to be stronger. Like an out of work muscle when you finally go back to the gym. That muscles tears apart, aches, and is sore for days. But joy comes in the morning when you can move again with stronger muscles ready to bare weight.

His entire congregation didn’t turn on him. For years people suffered under his ministry and inappropriate behaviour even when they were notify leadership. Even his own leader couldn’t talk to him. I truly believe that God can forgive and restore. But every time one of these men fall they seem to need to air it on social media or television etc they never can seem to stay out of the media. He didn’t honestly confess he got caught and not for the first time. As spiritual leader and pastor he should never be back in the pulpit I am not saying he can’t do ministry but clearly he couldn’t handle the spotlight. He abused people, and made a complete mockery of marriage and is biblically is disqualified to take up another post as a pastor.

This was so good! I really appreciate preachers who open themselves to accountability to the body of Christ. Ultimately their story is none of our business but because they had such a public platform it’s admirable that they would want to be accountable in this way. The entire time I was watching this I just got the sense that this woman is a kind-hearted person and I hope her kindness is never taken for granted ever again. I hope in the episodes to come Carl can delve deeper into how he continued to preach while living this double life. Like how do you just switch off that moral compass and continue? Is it just continuing based on your gifting and suppressing the spirit when He tells you you’re not living right?

Wishing you guys the best and am so thankful you chose to stay together and to keep following Christ and for you, Carl, to take responsibility. God is loving and gracious and merciful and your journey is evidence of that. 🙏

It's fruit of the emergent church of the early 2000s. It was a movement marked by evangelicals becoming progressive, leftist, cussing, drinking bourbon, smoking pipes and cigars, tats, etc

Carl, you did really good being so honest and humble with this and with publicly honoring your wife like you've done in this episode. May God do exceedingly and abundantly more with your testimony. God bless you! God bless your family! God bless the community that has been covering and counseling all those affected privately.

Absolutely Nothing.. can separate us from the Love of God. It just blows my mind that threw this entire storm.. God still looks at you and and says.. “ I forgive you” …..I loved you and chose you because you are my child( I will never leave or forsake you

Thank you for sharing. I walked through this yrs. Ago...I wish I had heard this podcast then. It's only been a few years since major healing has come...but God has restored what was stolen. Thanky ou for your example of true repentance and modeling the only way to heal is complete transparency, and falling on the undeserved mercy of God.

I visited hillsong NYC from South Africa in 2018 and I remember being very put off by the Jesus-like status Carl had in the church. I refused to engage in the praise he received…that’s a lot of weight to carry as one human.

Yes. I've seen comments here that Carl changed people's lives and that's wonderful but I think God used Carl and it was God who changes their lives. God gives us opportunity after opportunity and will keep sending representatives or situations until we accept Jesus and His will if he has our name in His book.

When you watch the Hillsong Doc, there are all these bitter, broken people at Hillsong NYC because all their hope was in CL and the vibrant "successful " church. When it crashed, their faith was shipwrecked.

@@RCGWho I always find it a shame that people put their faith in these celebrities instead of the God who empowered their talents. It's heartbreaking on their behalf but also feel disappointing because it seems irresponsible for a church to respond to a call for God's intervention with celebrity and that culture, encouraging their congregants to worship a man instead of the Holy Spirit he claims to represent. It sets people up to fall because humans except Jesus, are inherently flawed by our vulnerability to temptation. The freedom of choice God gives people comes with a responsibility to protect our relationship with the God behind the stage lights, behind the pop songs that prop up the celebrity who may be spiritually empty himself. This could be a good opportunity for us to ask ourselves who is filling our proverbial cup? A pastor or the power he stands and speaks for? If adjustments need be made, now is the time to work those out, by His grace & for His glory.

@brightpage1020 I think we're in the age of a strong delusion. It seems for every genuine biblical concept, there's a counterfeit. Charisma replaces anointing. Being "real" replaces character. Atmosphere/ambience such as lights, smoke, cool music replace the Presence of God. It's all fake. And you're right, we are empty and trying to get blood out of a turnip (celebrity pastor). It's like trying to go to a Beatles concert to meet God.

I'm really not a fan of elevated celebrity pastors, the mega church phenomena or such like this, as I just never understood putting any human on a pedal stall knowing how flawed we are, yet I thank you Laura for asking the real questions and Carl for answering them the best you can. These conversations unknowingly help us to confront the trauma's and issues that we have so we too can heal. It's takes much courage to confront your demons and do the work. It takes courage to forgive deeply after betrayal, probably the hardest of them all.
