Saw this show last night in England. Sat ten feet from the kit in the front row of the Stables at Wavendon. Could not believe my eyes or ears. One of the sticks flew into the audience. He picked up a spare literally without missing a beat. After the whole of Tarkus he smiled and said, That was hard work.

Drove from MI to long island for the last show before they leave for Europe, worth EVERY mile, EVERY penny of fuel. Sat center, right, 8th row. I don't even know what to say. A mesmerizing evening I will cherish forever. To have EVER been able to play like this let alone at 72.... The man is a monster. He is also a cheery, fun and polite gentleman. Due to covid,no personal interactions, understandable, yet he still personally signed several items I brought with me. His out front reps were very helpful in taking a few things back stage after show, dream come true. If you guys read this, THANK YOU AGAIN!!! Best of luck on your next leg of tour! One of the very best drummers for sure..and a very nice man I had occasion to meet him after a concert in Buffalo, NY in 2019 I purchased a Ludwig Carl Palmer Signature Model snare drum (exactly the same as he used in this video) he signed the head and gave me some tuning tips for it, and posed for a photo with me and the drum. The guy just doesn't age..like fine wine he just gets better. Thanks Carl for the great playing and that memorable evening in Buffalo.

I started listening to this master in 1974 when my then-drum teacher raced into my house for my lesson, and said, "HERE, LISTEN TO THIS!" It was their live "Welcome Back" album. I was speechless. _Just_ the drum solo, where of the many things he does - including paying homage to his idle, Buddy Rich, is imitate a train at the station preparing to leave, is brilliant. And he was only like 23 yrs old.

I first saw Mr Palmer in what I think was his first 'proper' band - The King Bees , from Birmingham. I just couldn't believe how good he was back in about 1964/5 and obviously still is. Had the honour of meeting his Dad - Mac Palmer; I think Fanfare For The Common Man was possibly dedicated to him.

Listening and Seeing Carl Palmer at the age of 72, his iconic ELP Solo just premiered in '72, more than 50 years ago, in my opinion the best solo in the history of Rock at the time he performed it, with the percussion that existed and the strenuous duration, taken to just over a month with all the nuances that he has been adding since he was 22 years old until today with enviable speed and perfection. They place him in force in the Olympus of Rock with his brothers Keith and Greg who orphaned him, but his legacy lives on in his continuous presentations. Carl Palmer does not stretch his music like others, on the contrary he reinvents it making it legendary. I was lucky enough to see him live 5 times, 3 with ELP and 2 with his Carl Palmer Band, they were 5 different and extraordinary drummers in the same person, with a unique physical state. With all due respect to the unforgettable John Bonham, who was talented like few others. Keith Moon, with The Who that was on the crest of the wave, could not, with little more than 35, transcend beyond his imprint, mired in drugs and alcohol, he moved away over time. Carl differed from his entire generation, and continues to do so today, in the fact that along with Greg Lake, he had to follow Keith Emerson, who obviously is for very few, perhaps counted on the fingers of one hand, he can be compared with the sole exception of Alan White (Yes) who along with Chris Squire had to follow Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe, with the plus of perfection that he does, repeating it over and over again with total validity, even now to everyone's envy his contemporaries with young 72 years. Carl Palmer unique, unrepeatable.
