The shot of Eagle Creek today... 😍 This is surprisingly one of the first photographs I've seen on Smarthistory, but I'm sure there's more to come. "If you want to conquer the world, do something conventional in an unconventional way." So many of the backstories about artists have that theme of people declining their efforts and them pressing on to produce what they knew to be true. I admire their courage and tenacity. And I appreciate Watkins showing us the things of the inferior coast (lol) way back when. The images are stunning. It reminds me that we live in dynamic art.

18x22?! What an absolute MADLAD to haul so much heavy gear into the most unforgiving terrain! Absolutely well worth the effort for the unparalleled imagery.

Ansel Adams brought me here. Really, he did! In 2019, I spent time at his home/studio in Carmel. Next thing you know, I'm returning to traditional photography. I'm now about to try glass plate photography. The fella who handicrafts my emulsion plates name-dropped Carleton Watkins. Fun fact: he travelled with a 75 pound camera.

The Albert Bierstadt at 1:16 is actually an oil painting.

But where's the person holding the photographer's hand and leading them into the scene? Or the feet dangling over the edge? Or the photographer covering 2/3 of the image with themselves wearing totes cool shades? I'm confused. This won't trend at all!
